The Best ‘Colors’ to Accent Pickled Oak or Pink-Toned Wood Finishes
Coordinating paint colors with pink or pickled wood finishes is tricky business. The goal is usually to tone it down or blend it in, but doing so often leaves us with wall colors we don’t love. However, there are those who go balls-to-the-wall and want to accent their pinkish woods.
The key feature of a color that contrasts with pink woods is that it’s the opposite, a clear opposite. Opposites attract and strengthen each other, and putting a cooler color (e.g., blue or green) against your pink wood finish could make it look even PINKER! If this is your life goal, you can fill your little pink suede boots. Just sample and compare carefully to see how much you and your wood can handle!

This next wood isn’t a traditionally pink-toned one; it’s more orange-pink. Comparing this image with the last one shows you the 2 approaches (lean in vs. contrast)…

These wooden French doors have a solid orange hue with pink and purple. Note how the darker blue-green-gray paint color on the walls plays with the wood stain.
Don’t get me wrong; this approach can be BEAUTIFUL if you want to accent and highlight your wood.
And if you’re reading this blog post, it sounds like this is what you’d like to do – and I gotchu, boo.

THE BEST BLUE-GREEN BLENDS WITH PINK-TONED WOODS
Blue-greens are the most natural complement/contrast to pink or red-toned woods. More genuine blues and greens can look a little try-hard if they aren’t chosen carefully (nobody likes a try-hard), whereas blue-green blends are often more natural, organic partners.
These aren’t ‘one size fits all’ colors, as a LOT depends on your exact stain blend, its depth, and your room’s exposure/other finishes. But they’re a great place to start!
The Best Teal-Inspired Paint Colors
This first color is Sherwin Williams Rainwashed, which looks badass and beautiful against this whitewashed pine/wood ceiling (whitewashing tends to give woods a pink hue).

My Paint Color Review of Sherwin Williams Rainwashed
Ooooo, look at this next beauty! If you know about Sherwin Williams Evergreen Fog, you might wonder why it’s not in the green section. Fair enough. But whether it’s a trick of photography or a mislabeled paint color, I’m skeptical that these are Evergreen Fog, even though my reader says they are (regardless, they look AMAZEBALLS!)…

Sherwin Williams Evergreen Fog: IMAGES, Info, & More
If you ask me, these cabinets look WAY more like a blue-green blend with some gray to calm it down. I’m obsessed with how they contrast and complement the pink hues of the wood flooring (what you can see of it).
If colors like these get your motor runnin’, take a look at…
LIGHT TO MEDIUM BLUE-GREEN-GRAY BLENDS
- Sherwin Williams Jasper Stone is one of my favorites when I want a bit more depth
- Sherwin Williams Rainwashed is a super popular blue-green
- Benjamin Moore Gray Wisp leans a bit more into blue, but is wickedly gorgeous
- Benjamin Moore Stratton Blue is a classic
- Benjamin Moore Wythe Blue is a great comparison for Rainwashed, for sure
- Sherwin Williams Quietude sounds about as beautiful as its name
- Sherwin Williams Interesting Aqua is another slightly lighter but more blueish hue.
Choosing a soft blue-green-gray is a great way to meet your pink wood stain ‘where it’s at,’ whereas darker and stronger shades can contrast much more. Let’s look at Rainwashed again…

However, it can look darn gorgeous to hit some darker, more purposeful colors…
MEDIUM TO DARKER BLUE-GREEN-GRAYS
- Benjamin Moore Gibraltar Cliffs is gorgeous, I had it on accent walls in our last home and loved it.
- Benjamin Moore Knoxville Gray is another beauty, which, again, I’ve had in my home (a guest room). It leans a bit more green.
- Sherwin Williams Grays Harbor is beautiful for the perfect blend of blue, green, and gray
- Sherwin Williams Riverway embraces a bit more color if you’re so inclined
- OR check out my FAVORITE BLUE-GREEN BLENDS that have a bit more depth (mad love). If you prefer, here are the lighter ones.
THE BEST GREEN PAINT COLORS WITH PINK-RED OR PICKLED WOOD TONES
When it comes to green, be careful, as it can look a bit vintage when paired with pink. Of course, if that’s your goal, fill yer little go-go boots and have at ‘er.
There are two types of green to choose from: warm and cool. Warm greens, which can look a bit more organic and natural, are green-yellow. Cool greens, which offer a cleaner contrast, are green-blue.
Check out this next lil’ baddy with its green cabinets (‘baddy’ is a good thing according to my teenage daughters)…

The pink tone in this wood flooring (peach and purple, too) looks SO stinkin’ pretty with sage green cabinets and warm white walls!
While I used the computer to make this next wall look green, notice how the peach-pink of the maple cabinets pops against this slightly vintage green hue…

This next example takes a different approach to green, and I have MAD love for it. The red oak floor has pink undertones. My client painted her walls Sherwin Williams White Duck, a soft, muted neutral, and used warm green chairs as her accent…

If you love this approach, check out these colors to sample and compare.
This next bathroom vanity has a muted grayed-out pink undertone. Notice how it comes to life in a dark green and warm white palette…

The Best Medium to Dark Green Paint Colors
The walls in the above photo are Benjamin Moore White Dove, which goes with the white quartz countertop. The vertical shiplap is Sherwin Williams Secret Garden.
Depending on the depth of green you’re hoping for, here are some of my favorites…
LIGHT TO SOFT MEDIUM GREENS (WARM & COOL)
- Sherwin Williams Evergreen Fog was the color of the year in 2022 and is still going super strong
- Benjamin Moore October Mist offers a bit more warmth than Evergreen Fog without being too olivey
- Sherwin Williams Grassland is lighter and more organic
- Sherwin Williams Comfort Gray is amazeballs – coastal and spa-inspired (could easily go in the blue-green-gray blend section)
- Benjamin Moore Camouflage offers a more muted, gentler approach to green
- Benjamin Moore Gray Mirage is a great color to compare with Camouflage to see which temperature you like more
Here’s a blog post with some more beauties to explore!
MEDIUM TO DARK SHADES OF GREEN (WARM & COOL)
- Benjamin Moore Dark Olive is simply delicious
- Sherwin Williams Thunderous has an interestingly grounded, organic look
- Sherwin Williams Retreat is a bit cooler than the others
- Benjamin Moore Castle Peak Gray has a quiet warmth
- Sherwin Williams Pewter Green is amazeballs – this is a gorgeous dark green and is super popular

THE BEST BLUE-GREEN-GRAY BLENDS
If some of the above colors make you nervous and you’re looking for a happy medium with your pink-toned wood, these colors could hit the spot.
This first image shows a WICKED pretty shade of blue-green-gray called Benjamin Moore Imperial Gray. Notice how it modestly accents the pink in the wood floor…

You can also choose a more thoughtfully blended, slightly darker, gray-blue-green to accent your pink-toned wood, as shown in this cabin with pine tongue-and-groove ceiling and walls…

There are also grayed-out greens, like Benjamin Moore Gray Horse (cool green-gray), which looks smokey and well-balanced against this pink-toned red oak floor…

Are you feeling excited yet? I hope so! If you’re ready to sample and compare, here are some colors to get you started. If you’re unsure, you know where to find me.
- The above two shades
- Sherwin Williams Magnetic Gray is an interesting, stormy hue
- Sherwin Williams Comfort Gray fits into a range of categories with its flexible green-gray blend
- Benjamin Moore Beach Glass is a beautiful, coastal-inspired shade
- Sherwin-Williams Silver Strand is lighter than the others, so be careful – depth usually works a bit better
- Benjamin Moore Silver Marlin is a great comparison to Beach Glass to see which way you lean
- Sherwin Williams Sensible Hue has a beautiful approach to green that I love

Did you know that many colors that suit darker RED-stained woods also suit lighter pink-toned ones?
THE BEST PURPLE PAINT COLORS WITH PINK-RED STAINED WOODS
So you’re curious about shades of purple with your pink wood. Oooo, this is a tricky one, but I’m always up for a challenge!
When it comes to purple and pink, a LOT depends on the type of pink or pickled wood you have. In the ideal world, there’s a flash of purple, too (it often looks like gray). This said, the odd pink-orange can handle the right shade of violet.

Because this isn’t a popular partnership, I don’t have any photos of pink woods with purple walls, but I have some colors to get the wheels turnin’!
- Benjamin Moore Abalone (which is pretty neutral but still has a gorgeous purple hue – see more colors like this in THIS BLOG POST).
- Benjamin Moore Cinnamon Slate
- Benjamin Moore Elephant Gray
- Sherwin Williams Flexible Gray (which definitely isn’t gray, but it’s also not a raging purple).
- Sherwin Williams Truly Taupe and Temperature Taupe are nice taupe-purples.
- Sherwin Williams Twilight Gray is a lovely warm purple-gray.
Here’s a blog post with some gorgeous purple paint colors. Here’s another with gray-purples!
SUMMARY
If you want to accent your pink or pickled wood tones, focus on colors that…
- Have an LRV of approx. 60 or lower
- Aren’t subtle about their color; they need to not look too neutral
- Sample a range of green-gray blends, as green is the opposite and will accent pink woods. The gray is there to calm it down, not to totally annihilate it.
- Sample and compare blue-green blends, especially those with some gray – you don’t want a color to be too overpowering (but again, not overly grayed-out, either).
