Benjamin Moore Beach Glass 1564: Is it Blue or Green?
Are you looking for the elusive ‘perfect blue-green-gray’ paint color? If you want a calming, coastal, relaxing vibe, you’re on the right track with Benjamin Moore Beach Glass – it’s sea-riously gorgeous.
Beach Glass winks at sun-kissed shores on a hazy day, creating a spa-like atmosphere of relaxation. But does this mean it’s the perfect color for you and your home? Let’s find out…

99.5% of the photos in my blog are of REAL HOMES from my Online Color Consulting clients, readers, and friends. While not always magazine-perfect, they’re packed with ideas and proven color choices to help you create a home you’ll love.
IS BEACH GLASS A BLUE OR GREEN PAINT COLOR?
- Green can lean either green-yellow or green-blue.
- Blue can lean either blue-purple or blue-red.
While our perception is that Beach Glass is a beautiful blue-gray with a tendency towards looking blue-green, in color science, it’s actually a green-yellow (strange but true, and also why color science isn’t always helpful for homeowners and DIYers).
When considering this color, we’re leaning into Kylie M’s Color System’s way of explaining colors and undertones, not color science – Beach Glass is a blue-gray that can lean blue-green.

North, East, South, West – Which Paint Color is the Best?
BEACH GLASS’S LRV
Beach Glass’s LRV is 49.7, making it a light-medium depth. At this depth, it suits the average room with average or better-than-average light. If you have a dark room, you might consider a color with a bit more ‘color’ (chroma) to help counteract the darkness—the increased color could make it pop a bit more.
Not sure what LRV is? It could save your paint-lovin’ life – read all about it HERE.

WHAT UNDERTONES DOES BEACH GLASS HAVE?
Perception-wise, Beach Glass often reads as a moody, misty blue-green-gray. Blue often shows up at the party more than green, but they both can flash depending on the exposure.

IS IT A GOOD COLOR FOR THE EXTERIOR OF A HOME?
It could be nice on the right home, but I’d say it probably wouldn’t come to the top of my mind often (if ever). This is because few exterior stones and bricks suit a color like this – never mind roofs. This isn’t to say it can’t work, but it would need to be a particular home – maybe one with a light gray metal roof?

IS IT A GOOD COLOR FOR KITCHEN CABINETS?
Beach Glass could be gorgeous on cabinets, especially if you’re creating a coastal kitchen. I say ‘coastal,’ not ‘beachy,’ because the beachy look often uses a more cheerful color palette. Coastal, in comparison, can be a bit stormy and moody.
If your home isn’t on the beach or a lake and you want a more timeless look, it’s smart to stick with white cabinets and consider a color like Beach Glass for your kitchen island or even your walls!

Hi Kylie,
Our kitchen cabinets are Revere Pewter and our countertop is Vicostone Verdelio. From reading your paint reviews, we are thinking Beach glass for the walls to play off this color in the countertop. in your professional opinion would this work? South facing room with either alabaster or white dove on the ceiling and trim.
Ann
We used beach glass on the exterior of our home, along with dark green and white trim. Complete strangers stop when we are out in our front yard to ask us what color the house is. It’s a lovely gentle color that fits in well with the landscape. We highly recommend it as an exterior color.
