The 8 Best Sage Green Paint Colors for Cabinets
TRENDY SHADES OF SAGE FOR CABINETS
While there are dozens of gloriously gorgeous sage green paint colors, I have a few top favorites for painting kitchen cabinets, islands, or bathroom vanities.
But what makes green SAGE colored?
Sage green is a green-gray. While green is the dominant feature, gray is there to temper its intensity without diminishing how gorgeous it is (Tim is the gray in my life).

Now, of course, sage green might be an easy choice for walls, as you change your mind yearly (or monthly, if you’re hormonal like me). However, committing to sage green on your cabinets is a serious decision, as it’s not a quick (or affordable) afternoon repaint.
IS SAGE GREEN A GOOD COLOR FOR KITCHEN CABINETS?
There’s no easy answer. Yessss, sage green can be a great option for cabinets…as long as it suits your kitchen’s finishes.

Often, we choose paint colors because we love them, but our home’s finishes don’t always align with our preferences. While sage green can be wickedly pretty in some spaces, it can flash with finishes that don’t SUIT this type of green.
Keep reading to learn which finishes suit sage green cabinets.
IS SAGE GREEN JUST A TREND OR TIMELESS?
As far as kitchen cabinet trends go, sage green is definitely a popular choice—you’ll be in style. However, once this trend fades, you still have sage green cabinets, whether they’re in or not.
Sure, it’s timeless in some homes (particularly vintage or heritage homes), but it’s not foolproof for the long term.

Paint your cabinets sage green because it suits your kitchen and you LOVE it – not because it’s trendy (unless you’re doing it for reasonably soon resale).
WHAT FINISHES GO WITH SAGE GREEN CABINETS?
Before we explore the best sage green paint colors for cabinets, we need to decide whether your kitchen can handle this color.

Whether you’re designing your kitchen from scratch or working with what you’ve got, here are the most popular countertop, backsplash, and flooring finishes to pair with sage green cabinets…
COUNTERTOP OPTIONS
- Many white countertops, such as popular white or soft white quartz counters and warm quartz countertops can look gorgeous with sage kitchen cabinets. White-based laminate (usually with a marble look) or some white-based granites can work, too. In these situations, white subway tile is usually the best backsplash choice.
- Gray countertops (either all gray or dominantly), assuming the gray doesn’t have a strong purple undertone. Remember, gray can have blue, green, or purple undertones, so sample carefully and make sure your finishes jibe! While some backsplashes featuring sage can be gorgeous, white subway tile is often the best choice.
- Timeless black countertops are an easy win, especially when paired with a white subway tile backsplash (or similar colored tile to the cabinets).
- Countertops that have a gray with a cool green undertone, even if it’s mixed in with other neutrals.
- There’s the odd counter with warm brown and beige tones that looks good with sage green cabinets, but it’s hit or miss (and there are way too many types for me to start).

While there are always exceptions, the above ideas & tips cover the best finishes that look good with sage green cabinets.
FLOORING OPTIONS
As for flooring, it’s tough: your countertop and backsplash matter the MOST when choosing cabinet colors; the flooring is tertiary. If I had my choice, I’d love travertine tile flooring, beige tile, dark gray, or black slate-look.

However, if I’m designing my kitchen from scratch, I’ll choose wood flooring in a moderate depth, muted stain (brownish). But don’t worry, if you already have wood flooring, sage green can be a gorgeous complement. Yup, even if you have golden oak, a strong cherry red, or another powerful stain color, sage green can work.
CABINET HARDWARE
For cabinet hardware, sage green looks stunning with polished nickel. Gold or antique brass is touch-and-go, especially if your sage green is definitely cool-toned. Black is sharp and easy, but it’s a trend (that’s faded), so go easy.
THE MOST POPULAR SAGE GREEN CABINET COLORS FOR 2026
This is it, the moment you’ve been waiting for! So, let’s dive in and see what I’ve got…

If there’s one color that’s taken the color world by storm the last few years, it has to be Sherwin Williams Evergreen Fog.

Evergreen Fog looks gorgeous with this slightly whitewashed, pink-toned wood flooring, white quartz, and white herringbone tile backsplash
Evergreen Fog’s name tells you exactly what you need to know – Evergreen (green) Fog (stormy and smoky). This glorious sage green paint color is popular for kitchen cabinets, not just for its color, but also for its LRV (depth) of 30.

Notice how Evergreen Fog pops with the butcher-block look laminate countertops.
Many of my Online Color Consulting clients have chosen Evergreen Fog. Even with a list of other color contenders, Evergreen is often the top choice.

2. SHERWIN WILLIAMS CASCADE GREEN 0066
If you’re ideal sage green cabinet paint color has a little more life, you have to check out Cascade Green.

With a slightly more vintage vibe, Cascade Green is a perfectly cool shade of green. With a minor blue backdrop and a more modest dollop of gray, this bad boy is bound to be a hit.
Remember, natural light, interior lighting, and PHOTOGRAPHY play a huge part in how a paint color looks (compare the last photo to this next one). Always sample paint colors carefully in your home!

Cascade Green looks a bit more green-blue than the previous image.
3. BENJAMIN MOORE FIELDSTONE
If your sage-inspired dreams involve a milder approach to color, let me introduce you to Fieldstone.
Benjamin Moore Fieldstone is less colorful and more gray than the previous options. You’ll still have a beautiful shade of green on your cabinets; it’s just not as intentional in its ‘sageness’.
But remember, how YOU see a color matters—maybe it’s the PERFECT sage green paint color in your eyes!

How to Update a Kitchen With Black Countertops

5. SHERWIN WILLIAMS OYSTER BAY
While Evergreen Fog might have my heart, Oyster Bay isn’t far behind.
Sherwin Williams Oyster Bay is a soft, light-medium-depth sage green paint color. This makes it lighter and airier looking than Evergreen Fog and closer in depth to Cascade Green.
Here’s your Peel & Stick sample of Oyster Bay…

This next image is a good comparison of a stronger, more colorful blue-green blend (Benjamin Moore Pleasant Valley) to the more sage-green (green-gray) look of Oyster Bay…

Sure, Oyster Bay looks a bit more blue-gray in THAT lighting, but you can expect it to easily swing into its green hues in many other spaces.
If you love Oyster Bay, but want a slightly lighter comparison, Sherwin Williams Comfort Gray is amazeballs.
SLIGHTLY OFF-KILTER SAGE GREEN PAINT COLORS
Because sage green is ‘open to interpretation’, the above colors might not be exactly what you had in mind. For this reason, I want to share a few outliers that might not be ‘classic’ shades of sage, but that might hit your happy place (I won’t tell your husband —he’s been trying to hit that for years).
6. SHERWIN WILLIAMS CONNECTED GRAY
Some people’s best sage green is a bit darker and warmer, in which case, Connected Gray often hits the spot.
Sherwin Williams Connected Gray is a very skookum, medium-depth sage-green INSPIRED paint color. With a bit more depth and earthiness than the usual, Connected Gray offers a more grounded approach to sage green…

Notice how well the depth and neutral base of Connected Gray complements the older, warm granite countertop!

7. BENJAMIN MOORE ANTIQUE PEWTER
This is another great sage-inspired green paint color for those who don’t love the previous options.
Benjamin Moore Antique Pewter is an earth-toned shade of green with an LRV of 25.4, making it a medium-depth color that’s on the darker end of this range.
Previously, this kitchen (below) had mismatched LVT flooring and outdated wood kitchen cabinets…

After, it looks perfectly homey and updated with one of the best warm white paint colors on the upper cabinets and Antique Pewter on the lowers…

8. SHERWIN WILLIAMS CORNWALL SLATE
If Evergreen Fog caught your eye, but you worry it’s a bit too heavy on the green end of things, check out Cornwall Slate.
Sherwin Williams Cornwall Slate is a wickedly pretty shade of green with a stormy, smoky gray backdrop.
Look at how gorgeous it is with this older granite countertop (I’d like I know what I’m doing – wink wink)…
