I love to show RELATEABLE & REAL homes, so ONLY use photos from my Online Color Consulting clients. This means I don’t always have the quality pics I need, but DEFINITELY have some SUPER helpful info to help you on your way!

What type of paint color is Grizzle Gray? Is it warm or cool?

Grizzle Gray is a considerably DARK gray paint color. At this depth, paint colors are often referred to as ‘charcoal’. You’ll also find that while Grizzle Gray is a COOL paint color, it has more undertone/color to it than the average gray (more on this below), which is why it’s SO important to sample it properly in your room!

What’s the LRV of Grizzle Gray?

Grizzle Gray has an LRV of 13, so there’s no messin’ around with this bad boy! He’s got some serious meat on his bones, sitting in the medium-dark range (learn more HERE).

Now take a look at the OTHER side of the island which gets a DIRECT hit of natural light. This is the POWER of paint color; when you give it light, it comes to LIFE!

What are the undertones of Grizzle Gray? Will it look green?

Grizzle Gray can definitely look green, as that’s its dominant undertone. However, it’s a COOL green, so a green-blue, which takes Grizzle Gray away from the more olive-toned and warmer gray-green blends.

What’s the best way to sample Grizzle Gray?

Undoubtedly, you’ll be heading out in the near future to grab paint samples – stop right there! I want you to check out SAMPLIZE. Samplize offers peel and stick paint samples that are more AFFORDABLE, EASIER and more ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY than traditional paint pots. Here are just a FEW reasons why I recommend Samplize to my clients…

  • samples arrive ON YOUR DOORSTEP in 1-3 business days, depending on location
  • at $6.99, they’re more affordable than the samples pots/rollers/foam boards that are needed for traditional paint sampling
  • if you keep the samples on their white paper, you can move them around the room

What’s the best white trim color with Grizzle Gray?

Grizzle Gray is pretty flexible, but if I’m starting from scratch with my paint palette, I’ll probably choose Sherwin Williams High Reflective White, just for its general ‘white’ look.

Yup, as long as you’re looking for a gray with green undertones, Grizzle Gray is DEFINITELY popular. However, if you prefer a more neutral or LIGHTER approach, there are other options.

What Benjamin Moore paint colors are similar or the same as Grizzle Gray?

I WISH Benjamin Moore had options that held up to the beauty of Gauntlet Gray. While there are some with similar intentions, they have different approaches, such as Benjamin Moore Amherst Gray and Kitty Gray.

Remember, you won’t find an exact match for ANY color between brands – you WILL see shifts in undertones, temperature and depths.

And if you’re thinking of color matching between brands (ie: getting BM to make an SW paint color), you might want to read THIS first.

  1. SW Grizzle Gray seems perfect for my cabinets. Are either SW Gossamer Veil or BM Natural Linen good wall colors? SW Passive is pretty but maybe too blue.
