THE BEST SHADES OF BLUE & GREEN FOR A BEDROOM
Are you looking for the perfect color for your primary or guest bedroom? Have you looked at dozens of blues, greens, grays, and beiges with no REAL idea of where to look next?
I’ve got you covered (hopefully in paint).
This blog post is all about the best blue and green bedroom paint colors, including some psychology behind them. However, just because SOME PEOPLE feel a certain way about a particular color doesn’t mean YOU feel the same way. Color is PERSONAL, as are our homes. Don’t get too caught up in the brain science behind it – find colors that suit your finishes and your personal tastes and leave the science to the color nerds like me.
(I’ll do more blog posts about other popular bedroom paint colors, including violet, pink, and neutrals).
THE PSYCHOLOGY BEHIND BEDROOM PAINT COLORS
When it comes to bedrooms, most of us are looking for relaxing colors that inspire a deep breath of contentment as we wind down at the end of the day (personally, I like to WINE down at the end of the day, but you do you).
Blue, green, and violet are the most popular bedroom colors, surpassing even the most popular shades of gray. However, not all colors are created equal and come in various intensities and depths (saturation). When it comes to bedroom colors, in particular, dirty colors are more popular than clean ones.
What’s a DIRTY paint color?
Colors with a degree of brown or gray in them are considered ‘dirty.’ The more gray or brown there is, the dirtier the color is. Colors that have LESS gray or brown in them are CLEAN colors. This also relates to my mind, which also has a lot of gray/brown in it and is rather dirty.
Dirty colors, or colors with gray/brown in them, are seen as calmer ,as the intensity of the color is toned down. This is a more subtle approach compared to the more colorful end of things, which is often seen as being more stimulating.
This doesn’t mean NEUTRALS are the most popular – not at all, it’s about finding the type of color you like and tweaking it to get the degree of dirt you want to see. Some people want to see a legit COLOR on their walls – others want a subtle wink and a nod. At the end of the day – you do you, boo.

HOWEVER, many of you don’t care about the psychology behind it all; you want a pretty bedroom color. I hear you, and I’ve got you covered, too.
So let’s get this color party started…
To show you REAL HOMES with REAL BUDGETS, I only use photos from my Online Paint Color Consulting work. This means I don’t always have the PERFECT photo, but I sure as heck have the info you’ve been looking for.
THE 11 BEST SHADES OF BLUE FOR BEDROOMS
Blue comes in two forms – blue-green and blue-violet. Sure, there are a few blues that come across pretty darn BLUE. However, these are easily influenced by their environment, meaning your room’s exposure, light bulbs, immediate surroundings, etc… can influence how they look.
If you want to learn more about choosing the right shade of blue for your room, read this. When you’re done, come back and check out the options below to see which ones you’re excited to sample!
1. BENJAMIN MOORE MOUNT SAINT ANNE 1565
Mount Saint Anne is one of Benjamin Moore’s long-standing beautiful blue hues. With a solid gray base and a touch of green for balance, Mount Saint Anne is a popular bedroom choice (for feature walls too, if you’re so inclined).
2. BENJAMIN MOORE COLORADO GRAY 2136-50
Colorado Gray is a blue-green blend with a dose of gray for good measure. With an LRV of 44, the depth of Colorado Gray grounds a room without weighing it down too much, as shown in this teen boy’s bedroom…
3. SHERWIN WILLIAMS NIEBLA AZUL SW 9137
Niebla Azul is a light-medium depth shade of blue. And while there’s a tiny (tiny) wink of green, you’d hardly know it. Niebla Azul also has a noticeable but still moderate amount of gray, leaving JUST the right degree of blue on your walls…
4. BENJAMIN MOORE HALE NAVY HC-154
Hale Navy is a stunning, classic shade of navy blue. And while this next photo might not show it in a bedroom, I’ve fallen asleep MANY times at my desk, so it’s not that out of place.
Hale Navy also makes for a wicked pretty feature wall. It’s flexible enough to accommodate a wide range of whites, grays, and warm neutrals, should you want something more subtle on your main walls.

While I don’t have photos of these next shades of blue, check them out on SAMPLIZE and compare them to the above colors to see which you love the most.
5. BENJAMIN MOORE SILVER MIST 1619
Silver Mist is a light, subtle approach to blue, with a heavy dose of gray calming it down.
6. SHERWIN WILLIAMS LULLABY SW 9136
Lullaby will have you slipping off to sleep on its gentle blue hues. Like a lighter version of Niebla Azul, Lullaby is a great way to commit to blue without too much intensity.
While the previous colors are quite committed to blue, these next colors are DEFINITELY open to interpretation…
7. SHERWIN WILLIAMS SILVER STRAND SW 7057
Is Silver Strand a BLUE-green or GREEN-blue? On the other hand, compare it to some of the other popular shades of blue and it can look pretty darn GRAY! As it relates to you and your bedroom, it doesn’t matter as long as YOU love it!

8. SHERWIN WILLIAMS TINSMITH SW 7657
If you’re looking for a subtle hint of blue, Tinsmith could be the color for you. While it DOES have a blue-green undertone (more blue than green, for sure), it’s gray that’s driving the bus…
Tinsmith is definitely the grayest of the bunch. If you want to sample similar shades, check out Sherwin Williams Silverplate and Benjamin Moore Stonington Gray.
9. BENJAMIN MOORE ARCTIC GRAY 1577
Arctic Gray is a color ninja and VERY open to perception. Whereas you might see it as a green-gray with a bit of blue, others will see it as more blue or more gray. This flexibility makes it a fun color to play with for linens and decor.

10. SHERWIN WILLIAMS UPWARD SW 6239
Upward is Sherwin William’s Color of the Year for 2023. And while blue-greens tend to be a bit more flexible than blue-violets, this subtle blue-violet blend could be JUST what your room needs!

A color like Upward can look a bit chilly in a north-facing room, so make sure you have soft, warm interior lighting to add some balance.
11. BENJAMIN MOORE WOODLAWN BLUE
I would be failing you as your color guide if I didn’t show you Woodlawn Blue. This is a timeless shade of blue thanks to a touch of green and gray. This foundation makes Woodlawn Blue a reasonably easy color to coordinate fabrics and finishes with (more so than Upward). And its LRV (depth) is right on the edge of my happy place, making it a great color to start sampling with.

THE 7 BEST SHADES OF GREEN FOR BEDROOMS
The same as blue, green also has two main types: green-blue (cool) and green-yellow (warm). And while green-blue is more popular in bedrooms, warmer greens definitely have their following!
If you’re looking for a medium toned or DARKER shade of green, this is the blog post for you. Otherwise, keep on readin’!
1. BENJAMIN MOORE FERNWOOD GREEN 2145-40
Fernwood Green is one of my FAVORITE warm green paint colors. It’s also one of the more cheerful options on this page while still having a calming, relaxing, serene green vibe. And while it’s certainly a commitment to COLOR, Fernwood Green has a natural, slightly earthy vibe.
2. SHERWIN WILLIAMS LIVEABLE GREEN SW 6176
If you’re looking for a very liveable green, Liveable Green is the color for you. What makes it so appealing? While it definitely says ‘green’, it’s not at all overbearing. With a wee willy wink of warmth, this shade is a great way to commit to green without making Miss Piggy jealous.
3. SHERWIN WILLIAMS EVERGREEN FOG SW9130
There’s a good reason Evergreen Fog was Sherwin William’s Color of the Year – it’s stinkin’ gorgeous. And while some see Evergreen Fog as having more GRAY then green, there’s no doubt that this green-inspired hue is perfect for the bedroom.

4. BENJAMIN MOORE OCTOBER MIST 1495
While Evergreen Fog was Sherwin William’s Color of the Year, it runs neck and neck with Benjamin Moore’s COTY for 2022 – October Mist. October Mist is another moody shade of green, with a healthy dose of gray calming it down.

The warmth of Spanish Olive hits the perfect spot, offering a modest approach to green-yellow, as shown in this kid’s bedroom…

7. SHERWIN WILLIAM SEA SALT SW 6204
It’s a toss-up as to whether Sea Salt should be in the BLUE section, the GREEN section or the recipe section. While Sea Salt is a green-gray at heart, due to its genetics, it JUST AS EASILY leans into blue – you’ll have to sample to see how it settles for you!
If you like the looks of Sea Salt, but crave just a wink more depth, check out Sherwin Williams Comfort Gray – it’s a STUNNER.

Great post. What paint colour is shown in the very first photo that has the wood trimmed window and beige chair? Thanks.

Hey Jenny, that’s Benjamin Moore Charlotte Slate (also known as Providence Blue) 🙂
Absolutely stunning choices for two of my favourite colours. I have had my kitchen painted in Mount St. Anne and I still have my dinning room painted in Smoke and still love it. 😀
Beautiful bedroom colors! Our bedrooms were just painted last month. I chose Grey Owl. It came out very nice. I’m curious if you have a LRV range you like for bedrooms.
Hi Kylie! Love reading your posts! Anyway, in the picture of SW Tinsmith what is the color on the adjacent wall?

Well, you have me DARN CURIOUS, so I went and checked it out. Believe it or not, that’s ALLLL Tinsmith, it’s just the lighting that’s affecting it differently!
This was so helpful! I have been looking high and low with no success- do you believe any of these green colors (particularly October Mist, Evergreen Fog or Sea Salt) will pair well with BM Classic Grey walls and Simply White trim? I have two north-east rooms (full windows on the east side) so pretty soft natural lighting but 3K LEDS. I’d be so grateful for your insights!

Ooooo, love this question! Sea Salt, no, it’s just not ‘enough’ with Classic Gray. October Mist could be pretty, but oooo, Evergreen Fog is the winner if you ask me!
Great article and color collection. What do you think of Benjamin Moore Providence Olive for a master bedroom in a home painted with Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige through all the main areas?

OH heck yes!
Hi Kylie, I read everything you write ! Thanks to you, I have chosen my paint colors so now I am deciding which line of Benjamin Moore paint to use. BM Regal Select eggshell was my wall choice for all new drywall in my condo destroyed in Hurricane Ian, Fl. I’m reading online that Regal Select was re-formulated in July 2023 and painters now don’t like using it due to the paint ” sagging”. Have you heard this and should I now consider Scuff-X matte instead of Regal Select Eggshell for a good finish? Thanks so much, Maria
