The Best Green Paint Colors for Cabinets, Islands, & Vanities
SHADES OF GREEN FOR YOUR KITCHEN & BATHROOM CABINETS
Are you looking for a lean, mean, green with a touch of sheen? I’ve got you and your cabinets covered – literally, in paint.
While green might still be reasonably popular (on walls and cabinets), the right shade of green can be timeless. Of course, a lot of that comes down to the exact color you choose, the surrounding finishes, and the style of your home, but these glorious greens can be a great place to start your color journey.

1. BENJAMIN MOORE PEALE GREEN HC-121
Peale Green might not be the most popular green paint color for cabinets, but its colorful approach is perfect for those wanting the glory of green without going too bold…

Along with an LRV of 14.51, Peale Green has some serious meat on its colorful little bones…

The Best Paint Colors for Golden Oak Cabinets, Trims, & Floors
Don’t let this little baddy scare you. While it isn’t messing around, its green hue pops a bit more in the above images as it contrasts strongly with the rich, golden oak flooring.
On the other hand, compare it to a few of the other shades on this page, and it might seem pretty darn tame!
2. SHERWIN WILLIAMS PEWTER GREEN 6208
Pewter Green is the perfect blend of color and depth, as it doesn’t go too far either way (this can be open to perception, for sure).
This next kitchen suited its white cabinets, but the homeowner was bored by them and wanted a darker shade of green…

While we couldn’t go too dark, given the low light of this kitchen, Pewter Green hit the perfect spot, along with new cabinet fronts and hardware…

As for depth, Pewter Green has an LRV of 12, making it a medium-dark color. However, its degree of green pulls up its pants, so it doesn’t flash too flat or dark.

3. SHERWIN WILLIAMS BASIL 6194
Basil is a striking shade of green without being obnoxious (borderline, but still). With its LRV of 15, Basil has a lot of depth, but its degree of COLOR (chroma) shows up at the party in its birthday suit and nothing else (been there, done that).

4. BENJAMIN MOORE DARK OLIVE 2140-30
Welcome to the warmer side of things. Well, not exactly WARM, but definitely warmer than most of the colors on this page.
Overly warm greens aren’t nearly as popular on cabinets as cool or more neutral-looking greens, but this is where Dark Olive comes in…

This is VERY similar to Dark Olive
Dark Olive is one of the best green paint colors for cabinets for a more organic and earth-toned kitchen palette. Not overly warm, but definitely not cold, Dark Olive’s earthiness is brought to you by a considerable neutral backdrop.
As for depth, Dark Olive has an LRV of 13.52, so she’s skookum without looking remotely blackish.
5. SHERWIN WILLIAMS ISLE OF PINES
For those of you who want to go big or go home when it comes to green, let me introduce you to Isle of Pines.
Also, if you would like a peek into my brain, I’d change the order of the ‘i’ and the ‘e’ in the word Pines. Isle of Penis. You’re welcome.
While its LRV of 8 might make you think it’s close to black, thanks to its considerable degree of color, this bad boy is anything but dull or dark.

The Best Warm Quartz Countertops
Just shy of a pool table’s traditional green felt color, Isle of Pines is a commitment to color, no doubt about it.

6. SHERWIN WILLIAMS EVERGREEN FOG 9130
You HAD to see this one coming. While Evergreen Fog was the Color of the Year for 2022, like my never-ending underarm odor, it’s STILL GOING STRONG.

Backsplash Tile Trends to Update Your Kitchen
Evergreen Fog is a medium-depth green-gray. With its LRV of 30, it’s snuggled up in the ample bosom of the medium depths.
While Evergreen Fog is green, it has a GOOD gray backdrop, and in some spaces, it can look more like a green-blue-gray paint color. This said, it’s rarely as strong as this…

7. BENJAMIN MOORE ANTIQUE PEWTER 1560
Antique Pewter is one of the softer shades of green on this page, but equally as stunning as its competition.
With an LRV of 25.4, it’s a medium-depth shade of green that has a gentle, earth-toned warmth without coming across as overly warm or vintage.
While this next kitchen had a beautiful, white quartz countertop and an updated backsplash tile, the floors and cabinets were a mismatch, making the space look dated…

After, with my favorite warm white cabinet color on the upper cabinets and Antique Pewter on the lower cabinets, this kitchen still has charm, but looks well-coordinated and perfectly updated…

If I were to be anal (as in ‘particular’ – just want to clarify that), I’d install nickel knobs on the doors and less linear pulls on the drawers. These handles are a bit modern for the cathedral/arched cabinet profile. Alternatively, since the holes are already drilled, I’d change these cabinet handles to something less modern, but still updated.
If Antique Pewter is up your alley, compare it to similar shades with my CURATED COLOR BUNDLE!
8. SHERWIN WILLIAMS RETREAT 6207
When it comes to the best green paint colors for cabinets, Sherwin Williams has some of the most popular shades, including Retreat.

Notice how Retreat has more depth and color compared to green-grays like SW Rare Gray and BM Fieldstone.
Retreat is a moderate shade of green, not just in depth (LRV 21) but in its degree of color (chroma), as it has some gray calming it down.
The Best Sage Green Paint Colors
Before, this kitchen had beautiful oak cabinets that could have been left stained, but the owner was over them…

The Best Colors to Update Oak or Wood Cabinets
While some other kitchen updates would have undoubtedly helped these cabinets out, the space as a whole looked outdated and was ready for some serious KLC…

Now, this kitchen has BUTTLOADS more personality (look it up, it’s a thing). While a popular white trim color would be pretty, too, we kept the wood trim as it adds a bit of charm and helps the beautiful SOLID wood doors feel more at home…

How to Update Golden Oak Cabinets & Trim
I can’t wait to see this room once the backsplash is in and the cabinet hardware is on (this color cowgirl doesn’t love nekkid cabinets).
While it might seem a bit like Evergreen Fog in some photos, it’s darker and has a touch more gray and a wink more blue in its undertone.
9. FARROW & BALL GREEN SMOKE NO. 43
Sure, Farrow & Ball doesn’t have the selection of Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams, it doesn’t need it when it has a color like Green Smoke.
Green Smoke is a beautiful, well-balanced shade of green. With a penchant for gray and a subtle cool vibe, Green Smoke has a calming look while still hitting the green streets hard.

The Best Sage Green Paint Colors for Cabinets
I’d love to tell you Green Smoke’s LRV, but for some reason, Farrow & Ball doesn’t just make their fan deck hard to peruse; they also don’t love sharing the LRVs of their colors. According to some sources, its LRV is 19.
If you love Farrow & Ball paint, check out…
- Farrow & Ball Card Room Green No. 79 for a slightly lighter, more organic look.
- Farrow & Ball Studio Green No. 93 is a WICKEDLY dark shade of green.

10. BENJAMIN MOORE CALDWELL GREEN HC-124
Picking up where Peale Green left off (much earlier), Caldwell Green has a similar vibe, but is a touch cooler and grayer.
Caldwell Green has an LRV of 16.27, making it a medium-dark color. Whereas some neutrals in this range could look a bit flat or heavy, Caldwell Green has a ton of color for you to play with.
While I might tweak the pendant lights and the bulkhead they attach to, this green kitchen gives me ALLLL the feels…

How to Update Your 1990s Home: 5 PART SERIES!
Here’s Caldwell Green in a beautiful updated laundry room…

I know it might not seem like the same green, but…
a) Look at the lower cabinets (what you can see of them) – they look more like the previous kitchen.
b) With a good hit of natural light, a color’s LRV (Light Reflectance Value) will be put to work, especially as the light bounces off the satin sheen of the cabinets.
c) It depends on the photographer!
11. BENJAMIN MOORE AVON GREEN HC-126
Avon Green is a gorgeous, country-vibe green without being kitschy. With its LRV of 20.99, it’s a solid medium-depth with a generous dose of green.
Check out the magic of Avon Green with these soapstone countertops in this mudroom…

12. SHERWIN WILLIAMS CAST IRON
Is there a chance I saved the best till last? Maybe, as I’m SO obsessed with Cast Iron, along with its slightly lighter cousins, Thunderous and Link Gray.
Here’s a Peel & Stick sample of Cast Iron…

I can’t WAIT for one of my Online Color Consulting clients or readers to use one of these colors on their cabinets!
Cast Iron is a super grounded, slightly organic, earthy approach to green. With much more gray than most of the options on this page, Cast Iron is a great nod to green without an overwhelming commitment to color.
The Best Green-Gray Paint Colors
HONORABLE MENTIONS
Here are a few other colors that almost made the cut…
- Benjamin Moore Salamander, a super dark green with a good whack of color, alongside some blue.
- Sherwin Williams Ripe Olive, for a richer, darker green experience without looking like a traditional shade of green (shown below).

This is just a computer-generated rendering I created of my own kitchen, but it would look amazing!
