Sherwin Williams Casa Blanca 7571: Paint Color Review

One of Kylie’s Favorite Cream Paint Colors for Walls

It can be hard to find the right one when it comes to popular cream paint colors. Some are too yellow, others are dull. Some lean toward a yellow-orange, while others lean toward a yellow-green. So, how do you find your best shade of cream?

You do your research and compare similar colors, starting with Casa Blanca. While Casa Blanca isn’t on the top of the list, that isn’t because it’s not gorgeous – it just hasn’t been discovered yet!

WHAT TYPE OF PAINT COLOR IS SW CASA BLANCA?

While Casa Blanca has a reasonable degree of color (yellow), its base is neutral enough to be considered a cream paint color.

Being a cream, it’s a warm paint color and a great foundation for a whole home color palette.

The warmth of Casa Blanca can be great for north-facing rooms (which can look a tit bit nippy), as well as east and west-facing rooms during their flat times of day. However, if you have a south-facing room or one with intense western afternoon sunshine, sample carefully to ensure Casa Blanca doesn’t look too roasty-toasty on those bright, sunny days!

WHAT’S CASA BLANCA’S LRV?

Casa Blanca has an LRV of 76. This puts it quite nicely in the off-white range. Some creams are in the lower 70s and wink at the beige, gold, and tan worlds. Some brighter shades of cream are closer to the white world, but not Casa Blanca. If you ask me, it’s the perfect depth for the average cream-loving room.

WHAT ARE CASA BLANCA’S UNDERTONES?

Every cream paint color has a yellow base. From there, it can lean yellow-orange (a more golden look) or yellow-green (which can be tougher to decorate and design around).

Casa Blanca has a yellow-orange undertone with a neutral base calming it down.

Is it too yellow?

It depends on how sensitive you are. Many of my Online Color Consulting clients ask for cream, even though they claim not to like yellow hues (insert awkward silence HERE).

Cream starts like this – then we add a buttload of beige to calm it down.

If you want cream, you get yellow; it all depends on how much yellow you can handle. That said, for those who like more traditional creams, Casa Blanca often isn’t warm enough.

WHAT’S THE BEST WHITE TRIM COLOR WITH CASA BLANCA WALLS?

Casa Blanca does best with a warm shade of white as its coordinating trim or cabinet color. Here are a few to sample and compare – see which combo you like the most!

Some people might partner Casa Blanca with a white like Sherwin Williams Shell White. However, it’s best if the trims throughout your home are the same white, and on a large scale, Shell White won’t be as easy to coordinate with other colors.

All the photos in my blog are from my Online Color Consulting clients, talented photographers, readers, & friends— because real homes deserve to be celebrated (dirty laundry & all!) While not magazine-perfect, they’re packed with ideas & proven color choices to help you create a home you’ll love.

IS CASA BLANCA GOOD WITH WOOD TRIMS, CABINETS, & FLOORING?

It’s hard to say, as it depends on your wood stain. I’d say, generally speaking, yes, Casa Blanca suits a wide range of wood stains, especially those with yellow-orange hues (e.g. golden oak). What I get twitchy about is woods with strong pink undertones, as Casa Blanca can come up too yellow against some.

WHAT COLORS ARE SIMILAR TO CASA BLANCA?

I love it when people compare colors, as it’s the best way to find the perfect shade! Here are a few contenders…

BENJAMIN MOORE NAVAJO WHITE vs. CASA BLANCA

When I have Online Color Consulting clients wanting a cream, these two are usually at the top of my list. While there isn’t a huge difference between Benjamin Moore’s Navajo White and Casa Blanca, notice how Navajo White is a bit more muted and earthy. In return, Casa Blanca has a bit more pep in its step via its color and energy.

As for depth, Navajo White has an LRV of 78.26, meaning it’s a touch lighter than Casa Blanca’s 76 but still in the same ball field.

SHERWIN WILLIAMS STEAMED MILK vs. CASA BLANCA

This is a great comparison, as you’ll notice a decent shift in intentions.

Casa Blanca is a cream, through and through. On the other hand, while Steamed Milk looks creamy on its own, compare it to Casa Blanca and it looks dusky, more muted, and slightly more beige. This said, they’re the exact same depth with LRVs of 76.

SHERWIN WILLIAMS CREAMY vs. CASA BLANCA

Creamy is one of Sherwin William’s most popular cream paint colors. However, Creamy and Casa Blanca approach cream in drastically different ways.

My FULL Paint Color Review of Sherwin Williams Creamy

Casa Blanca is a pretty standard approach to cream. Compare it to Creamy and notice how Creamy looks lighter and more yellow, but in a weird way.

This is because Creamy…

  • Doesn’t have the same touch of orange that Casa Blanca has; it’s more centered on its yellow hue with no noticeable shift to orange or green.
  • Creamy’s LRV of 81 is higher, making it lighter than Casa Blanca, which sits at 76.
  • Comparing the two almost makes Casa Blanca look BEIGE in comparison…but it isn’t.

If I were choosing between Creamy and Casa Blanca for my cabinets and trims, and they both suit my finishes, I’d always choose Creamy as its high LRV makes it far more flexible.

Here’s Creamy on trim and wainscoting…

As for depth, Creamy has an LRV of 81, putting it on the edge of the WHITE world, which, compared to Casa Blanca, is much lighter.

The question is, which one looks like ‘cream’ to you?

IS CASA BLANCA A GOOD COLOR FOR CREAM CABINETS & TRIM?

No. 1000 times no. Okay, I take that back – 999 times, no.

Some interior finishes demand cream cabinets, in which case Casa Blanca can be a great option and look stunning. However, Casa Blanca is far too cream for today’s modern, updated cream-inspired kitchen.

How to Update Cream Cabinets & Trims

My next client was in a tricky spot. She already had Casa Blanca on her cabinets, but unfortunately, it’s too creamy for her backsplash and tile flooring.

Short of updating these surfaces, her best choice for wall color was to repeat Casa Blanca, rather than adding ANOTHER color to her palette.

If the foundation isn’t 100%, sometimes there is no PERFECT color to fix things.

Anyway, that’s a whole different topic – SQUIRREL!

As for using Casa Blanca on trim, it will be very challenging to coordinate with wall colors – I’d stay far away or at least go with Creamy.

WHAT COLORS GO WITH CASA BLANCA?

Casa Blanca isn’t too fussy and can look pretty with a range of colors. Whether you’re creating a room-to-room palette with Casa Blanca, need an accent wall, island color, or what have you, here are a few of my favorites…

However, it can be quite fussy with some neutrals, including many of the popular gray and greige paint colors, so you’ll want to sample carefully!

  1. Thank you for all your wisdommregarding paint colors! My question is what would Casa Blanca look light cut 50%? I would like a lighter LRV for a Spanish Revival interior. Thank you!

    1. You know, I haven’t tried it, but I actually REALLY like the idea of it – I think it’s definitely worth checking out!

    1. Great question! You’ll notice a NICE difference. Casa Blanca is a more traditional cream with its yellow base. Moderate White is more of a beige, with an ORANGE undertone. I’d say the ‘average home’ suits Moderate White moreso than Casa Blanca, as more finishes cater to orange over yellow. But, of course, it depends on your finishes :).

  2. Hello 🙂 just wondering what the wall colour is in the picture where Creamy is on the trim and wainscotting.

  3. Thanks so much for this detailed post. It influenced me to use Casa Blanca in my basement which has very little natural light and the touch of warmth it brings is fabulous.

  4. Hi Kylie,
Struggling a bit with an exterior off-White-Creamy white. We live in Scottsdale AZ, and trying to stay away from bright whites and stark whites. We have brownish S tile roof and a large Iron gate that’s oil bronze. Side entry garage is medium brown wood grain. Was really attracted to Casa Blanca, but concerned it might go yellow or orange by way of sample.. Front of house faces East. Thoughts?

    1. CRAIG, guess what…I’m writing a blog post for you right now. I should have it done in a few days! Also, don’t do Casa Blanca or anything close to it. If you’re in Arizona, you need more taupe or at least an interesting beige. Compare all of them to Casa Blanca’s yellow to get a baseline of what to stay away from :). I mean, you do you, but most homes like yours don’t do yellow well.

      STAY TUNED!
