Sherwin Williams Pavestone: LRV, Undertones and a Little More
While a lot of the world is focusing on the LIGHTER brighter end of things, there are those wanting a paint color with a bit more MEAT on its bones. Which is why today, we’re taking a look at Sherwin Williams Pavestone.
In order to show you RELATEABLE & REAL homes, I ONLY use photos from my Online Color Consulting clients. This means I don’t always have the quality pics I need (hence the ‘QUICK Review’), but DEFINITELY have some SUPER helpful info to help you on your way!
What type of paint color is Sherwin Williams Pavestone? Is it warm or cool? Gray or greige?
While it can depend on the exposure you have, generally speaking, Pavestone is a warm gray paint color that’s winking at the greige range without committing to it (it has a bit more warmth than most of the other popular warm gray paint colors).
Now, the reason your EXPOSURE matters (it always does), is because if you have north-facing light, you may find Pavestone looking grayer vs warmer, without it falling icy cold. If you have afternoon western sun or south-facing light, you may see it lean a bit more into greige (warmer).

What’s the LRV of Pavestone?
Pavestone has an LRV of 32, putting it SMACK DAB in the middle of the medium depth range.
Not sure what LRV is? It could save your paint lovin’ life – read all about it HERE.
What are the undertones of Pavestone? Will it look green or purple or like a true gray?
Pavestone is a bit too warm to look like a true gray in any light and it ALSO has a soft green undertone that likes to show up to the party (passive, but it’s there).
What’s the best way to sample colors like Pavestone?
Like with every paint color, I highly recommend using SAMPLIZE. Samplize is a peel & stick paint sample that you can easily move around your room for over HALF THE COST of traditional sample pots – and they deliver right to your front door!

If I’m painting my walls Pavestone, what’s the best white paint color for my trim?
Pavestone is reasonably flexible when it comes to white paint colors, but I would lean into…
- Sherwin Williams Pure White
- Benjamin Moore Oxford White
The more YELLOW your white has in it, the more likely it is to activate the green in Pavestone.

Is Pavestone a good color for the exterior of my home?
Pavestone can be an EXCELLENT choice for the exterior of your home, especially if you want to blend in some concrete or have a lot of mortar/brick. Just make sure your roof is okay with that subtle green undertone!
Pavestone only on shutters and trim, a nice complement to the siding color, brick, and stonework

What Benjamin Moore paint colors are the same as or similar to Pavestone?
Color matching is impossible – there’s no such thing! Every color has its own particular nuances and there will be NO perfect match – you WILL see shifts in undertones, temperature and depths, but you could check out colors with similar goals, such as…
- Benjamin Moore Rockport Gray
And if you’re thinking of color matching between brands (ie: getting Benjamin Moore to make a Sherwin Williams paint color), you might want to read THIS first.
What type of paint colors look good with Pavestone?
Pavestone is somewhat flexible and can entertain colors like…
- Light greige paint colors with similar undertones/tendencies
- Some slightly darker gray-blue blends
- SUBTLE, not-too-creamy cream paint colors
- Some off-white blends
Not sure if Pavestone is right for you? Want a bit warmer or cooler? I’ve got more!

Hi! I’m somewhat obsessed with your page! We are redoing our entire downstairs. I was thinking of doing pavestone for my cabinets while get most of the light from the south/southwest and some northwest light. Do you think it would make my kitchen too dark??
Author
Pavestone is AMAZING, and as long as you love it, it doesn’t strike me as being OVERLY dark!
Thank you!! I just saw this reply and I’m reading over the color again! What is the main difference between pavestone and Fawn Brindle?
Considering pavestone for exterior home. Do you think it will work well with a black roof? Thank you!! Love your page 🙂

Hi Catherine! More often than not, black roofs actually have a violet undertone that can sit a bit iffy with the warm green undertone in Pavestone. Just depends on which roof you have!
I have a two story stucco home. I’m hoping got a gray with green for the body.
I’m considering for my stucco home as well. Can you post a pic?
I’m considering using Pavestone for the exterior of our southern exposure home, with Pure White trim. Thoughts on using Urbane Bronze vs. Iron Ore for garage doors?
Author
Ooo, TOTALLY depends on the house and how the garage door shows up to the party – both could be great or TOOO much for a garage door. In general, of the 2, I love Iron Ore!
