Benjamin Moore Stone House CC-120 / 1039: Paint Color Review
A popular beige with a timeless appeal? Let’s find out
Benjamin Moore Stone House has been kickin’ it in the wild world of warm neutrals for a long time. With its blend of undertones and LRV, it has been a go-to beige for many homeowners.
But just because a color has been around a long time doesn’t mean it’s the best for every home. Let’s find out if it’s the color you’ve been looking for…

WHAT TYPE OF COLOR IS STONE HOUSE?
Stone House is a warm neutral paint color with a strong beige base. What makes Stone House beige, not tan? Keep reading to find out its undertones and more!

If you have a room with north-facing light, morning western or afternoon eastern light, Stone House can help balance that cool flat light with its pretty warmth.
However, if you have a south-facing room or afternoon western sunshine, be aware that Stone House can lean into its warmth quite a bit, so sample carefully. You may want to include some more muted but similar colors in your collection so you don’t visually overheat!

WHAT’S THE LRV OF STONE HOUSE?
Stone House has an LRV of 49.61, making it a warm neutral with MORE DEPTH than the average light depth beige paint color.
Not sure what LRV is? It could save your paint lovin’ life – read all about it HERE.
WHAT ARE STONE HOUSE’S UNDERTONES?
Stone House has been popular for so long because its undertones work well with many of the tiles, carpets, and countertops used in the last 30 years. Whereas tan paint colors focus on more of a yellow (usually yellow-green) undertone, beige paint colors like Stone House center on an orange undertone with a wink of pink (don’t be scared).
Crazy, but true – your beige interior finishes are more likely to coordinate with orange-pink undertones than orange-yellow.

WHAT’S THE BEST WHITE TRIM COLOR WITH STONE HOUSE?
Being a considerably WARM beige, it will want a warm paint partner, including shades of white like…
- Benjamin Moore Cloud White
- Sherwin Williams Alabaster

WHERE DOES STONE HOUSE LOOK ITS BEST?
Loving a color isn’t enough. It’s important that the color you choose coordinates with surrounding finishes and suits the surfaces it’s painted on! Here are a few situations…
STONE HOUSE AS AN EXTERIOR COLOR?
Stone House can be a beautiful exterior color as its LRV will hold up to intense light a bit better than lighter beige and tan paint colors.
- Make sure its undertones connect with any surrounding stone or brick.
- Pay attention to how it changes in direct sunshine – make sure it doesn’t look TOO warm!
5 Tips for Choosing an Exterior Paint Color
STONE HOUSE ON CABINETS
This will be a short section…don’t do it.
STONE HOUSE WITH CREAM CABINETS & TRIMS
Thanks to its depth, Stone House can look good with some cream cabinets and trims. However, it’s not a ‘one size fits all’ situation. Sample Stone House along with some of the shades below, as there could be a better choice.
DOES STONE HOUSE GO WITH WOOD TRIMS & CABINETS?
Whether you have wood trims, cabinets, flooring, or furniture, Stone House can be a beautiful addition to your palette…depending on the color of your stain.
The Best Paint Colors with Red-Stained Woods
Stone House greatly favors orange stains that cater slightly to red or pink. It will get twitchy with yellow-based stains, graywashed, or whitewashed woods.

WHAT COLORS ARE SIMILAR TO BENJAMIN MOORE STONE HOUSE?
It’s important to know there will be no perfect color match—paint companies use different bases, so it’s often close—but no cigar.

This said, it’s VITAL to compare similar shades, either from that brand or a competing brand to find the one that’s best based on its undertones, depth, and temperature.
Take a look at…
- Sherwin Williams Quinoa has a touch less pink and a bit more orange compared to Stone House.
- Sherwin Williams Practical Beige picks up a bit more of a pink-taupe hue, which can be JUST what some finishes demand. Benjamin Moore Bradstreet Beige is good for this, too (love it).
- You should also check out Sherwin Williams Nomadic Desert, which picks up what Stone House throws down but is a bit quieter and more neutral in its approach.
- If Stone House seems a touch too orange-pink for your finishes, take a look at Benjamin Moore Sandy Brown.
- As it relates to exteriors, check out Sherwin Williams Malabar, along with Balanced Beige for slightly different but still ‘beige’ approaches.
Here’s Nomadic Desert with beautiful, medium-toned wood trim and doors…

And I’ll SERIOUSLY advise you not to color match. If you’re thinking about it, read THIS first.
However, for the most MODERN beige with timeless ease, check out Sherwin Williams Natural Linen. While it’s also beige, it offers a softer, lighter look…

Don’t worry; the sponge-painted walls in the entryway are getting freshened up, too!
WHAT COLORS GO WITH STONE HOUSE IN A PALETTE?
Being a light-medium depth beige, Stone House will be a bit particular about its partners but can work with some…
- Lighter beiges with similar undertone profiles
- Some darker gray-purple blends can be gorgeous with it. The above photo shows Benjamin Moore’s Smoked Oyster with Stone House in the background.
- Darker gray-greens and regular light-medium or darker greens can be amazeballs.
