Two GORGEOUS greige paint colors for you to explore
If you’ve been looking for a warm paint color that doesn’t commit to any particular shade of neutral, you’ve come to the right spot. And while these two colors might not be super popular in the wild world of colors, this doesn’t mean that Gray Mist and Fog Mist aren’t the best colors for YOU and your home!
BTW, in order to show you RELATEABLE & REAL homes, I ONLY use photos from my Online Color Consulting clients. This means I don’t always have the quality photos I need or the RIGHT photos, but DEFINITELY have some SUPER helpful info to help you on your way!
What type of paint colors are Gray Mist & Fog Mist? Are they warm or cool?
Gray Mist and Fog Mist are GREIGE paint colors which means they’re WARM neutral paint colors.
If you have a room with north-facing light or even flat eastern afternoon/morning western light, you can expect these two colors to look that bit more grayish rather than overly warm. HOWEVER, if you have south-facing light or warm western afternoon sunshine, they will lean MUCH warmer on you, leaving a lot of the gray behind!

What are Gray Mist & Fog Mist’s LRVs?
Gray Mist has an LRV of 74, making it an off-white paint color. Fog Mist has an LRV of 71, so it has a bit more meat on its bones; putting it closer to the LIGHTER end of the ‘light’ range.
Not sure what LRV is? It could save your paint lovin’ life – read all about it HERE.
With these higher LRVs, you can expect both Gray Mist and Fog Mist to wash out in rooms with a lot of intense natural light, but this will happen with ANY color in these higher numbers!
On the other hand, if you have a DARK room, Gray Mist and Fog Mist are a tough sell, as due to being greige, they can look a bit murky and dingy in lower light areas.

What are the undertones of Gray Mist & Fog Mist?
When it comes to Gray Mist and Fog Mist, they both have a GREEN undertone. HOWEVER, they have WAY more to say than just that! You’ll find that while these are greige paint colors, both Gray Mist and Fog Mist can lean considerably tan in some lights and even pick up a wink of cream here and there!
Again, I would LOVE to show you photos of these in action, but they haven’t been used yet by my E-Design clients OR the photos sent in weren’t quite usable.

Are Gray Mist & Fog Mist good exterior paint colors?
Generally speaking, no. Why? Well, with their high LRVs and particular blends, they can end up looking a bit DINGY and non-committal on exteriors. They also suit fewer bricks, stonework and roofing finishes.

Are Gray Mist & Fog Mist good cabinet colors?
Wellllll, again, no. Those high LRVs will set you up for a WORLD OF PAIN when it comes to choosing coordinating wall colors. Now, this doesn’t mean they aren’t the PERFECT color for you based on your backsplash and countertop, but in this range, more people are leaning into subtle warm shades of gray or taupe.

Chat soon,
Hi there Kylie,
Well, about 13 years ago we painted out cabinets BM Gray Mist in our north facing kitchen. We have always loved the colour. It’s off white but not yellow or peach like some of the creams that were popular then. I still like the colour but I’m looking for the right neutral wall paint colour to compliment the cabinets. At the time we had our walls painted a light green which looked good, but I have been wanting go neutral. I’m having a heck of a time finding the right colour. I painted White Duck, but that was a big mistake lol. In the living room I have yellow beige or light tan furniture. Since the rooms join, it makes it even more difficult to figure out what to do. Any help you could offer would be very much appreciated by me and my husband, who is very over looking at paint samples lol!
I love your reviews! Could you do one on BM fossil? I have narrowed down my choices but cannot decide on BM fog mist or BM fossil

Hi Judy! I don’t plan on doing one SOON, but for some guidance, if your room is north-facing, it might like the bit MORE subtle warmth that Fossil has (same for east-facing). If your room is south or western, Fog Mist is just that touch grayer and can help balance that warm sunshine a ‘bit’ more. PERSONAL opinion, I think Fossil is quite beautiful, although they’re both nice.
