Paint Colour Review: SHERWIN WILLIAMS EGRET WHITE SW 7570

Egret White – a popular soft warm neutral paint colour

With trends leaning into the warmer end of things, it’s no surprise that I’m seeing more warm grays, taupes, greiges and EVEN BEIGE paint colours popping up in my inbox. This is why today we’re going to spend some time with what SHOULD be one of the best warm neutrals on the market…

What type of paint colour is Egret White, is it greige, taupe or a warm gray?

While it’s up for grabs as to whether Egret White is a warm gray or taupe, one thing it ISN’T is a greige. Greige paint colours tend to favour a green undertone, which is one hue that you WON’T find in Egret White. What WILL you find? Keep on reading!

If you have a north-facing room, with the degree of gray in it, you can expect Egret White to lean a bit more into its gray side while DEFINITELY retaining some passive warmth.

If you have a south-facing room or a room with a lot of western afternoon sunshine, Egret White will lean into its warm side without going FULL beige on you.

What’s the LRV of Egret White?

Egret White has an LRV of 70, putting it in between the light and off-white range.

If you have a dark room, either due to not enough interior lighting or natural light, Egret White could look a bit dingy and won’t come to life. On the other hand, if you have a VERY BRIGHT ROOM, Egret White WILL wash out quite a bit – as will any colour with a higher LRV like this.

What are the undertones of Egret White?

Egret White has subtle undertones nodding just a TOUCH towards a warm violet, so a violet with a wink o’ pink in it. These undertones are quite passive but could show up to the party more if you partnered them with a surface with green hues.

However, in the right situation, you’ll even see Egret White leaning just a weeee tiny bit into BEIGE – it’s quite the chameleon, and it’s all so subtle that it can be left up to personal perception.

Is Egret White a good colour for the exterior of my home?

As far as the best colours for exteriors go, Egret White can suit some roofs, especially those in the states that are more inclined towards orange hue roofs, stonework and driveways. However, there are OTHER colours I would look at first. OVERALL, Egret White often looks WARMER than expected on an exterior and isn’t a popular choice.

Does Your Exposure REALLY MATTER When Choosing EXTERIOR Paint Colours?

Is Egret White a popular colour for kitchen cabinets?

While Egret White COULD be popular for kitchen cabinets, especially with trends leaning warmer, because of its particular depth, it’s tricky to partner up with wall colours if you want to see ANY type of contrast. You either need white walls or a paint colour with an LRV approx 15-20 points lower.

  1. As usual, Kylie, your analysis is spot on! Thank you for your valuable insight. We just painted our study Egret White and absolutely love it! The room has two corner windows; one facing south, the other west. The color is what I would term a modern off-white shade with (non-yellow) warmth, a tiny touch of passive gray in a corner, and yes, as you stated…the tiniest bit of hardly noticeable violet if the light hits a certain way at a certain time. It’s not a factor in the overall effect of this sophisticated light neutral. While the roller was in use, I painted a poster board to use as a sample in other rooms since I am now looking around my house to see where else we can paint Egret White!
    Thank you Kylie!

Wahoooo, this is JUST the type of comment I love to read, thank YOU Virginia for taking the time to write it 🙂

      1. You are so very welcome, Kylie!
May I be so bold to suggest you do a full review of SW Toque White sometime?
You referred to it in your review of 5 Best Off-White Neutrals citing it’s similarity to Silver Satin yet with warmer tones… yes, I read basically read all of your reviews because of your enjoyable writing style as well as spot-on paint color assessments.
I’ve painted a huge poster board with Toque White for another painting project, (my home’s wall color scheme is SW Sandbar, Egret White, and Toque White) and it is such an incredibly soft, beautiful color in all light exposures, it occurred to me “people need to hear Kylie’s review of this one!”
        Thanks Kylie, you’re the best!
