Sherwin Williams Egret White: Undertones, LRV, & Real Home Images
Are you looking for a warm neutral that can appear a little gray or taupe, while winking seductively at beige? Do you crave a chameleon color that suits a ton of finishes and lighting situations? Let me introduce you to Sherwin Williams Egret White SW 7570.
With warm paint color trends, it’s no surprise that I’m getting more requests for colors like this. Whether for an open-concept space, a single room, or a whole home, colors like Egret White are hotter than me in a moo-moo (trust me, I can pull it off). So, let’s jump in and see what makes this color so fab.
IS EGRET WHITE WARM OR COOL? GRAY, TAUPE OR GREIGE?
Egret White is a versatile, warm neutral, hugging the ample bosom between gray, greige-taupe, and beige. While it most closely resembles a taupe, it easily leans a bit grayer or warmer/more beige depending on its environment (which we’ll get to shortly).
If you have a north-facing room with a degree of gray in it, Egret White might seem a bit more muted than expected. If your room is also dark, be careful, as without good interior lighting, it could seem a bit cool and flat/drab. The same goes for lower light east-facing afternoon light and west-facing morning light.
On the other hand, if you have a south-facing room or a room with a lot of western afternoon sunshine, Egret White can lean into a gorgeously warm softness.
North, East, South, West – Which Paint Color is the Best?
THE LRV OF EGRET WHITE
Egret White has an LRV of 70, putting it in between the light and off-white range. Again, as a muted neutral with a gray backdrop, it can feel a bit drab and isn’t always the best paint color for a dark room.
Egret White is far too dark to be considered a white paint color. NEVER JUDGE A COLOR BY ITS NAME (or a Ginger by her hair). Instead, judge it by how it looks in your room.
However, if you have a super bright room, Egret White WILL wash out quite a bit – as will any color with a higher LRV like this. This is thanks to its LRV and lack of obvious color (chroma).

WHAT ARE EGRET WHITE’S UNDERTONES?
One awesome thing about Egret White is that it doesn’t usually flash any overt, obnoxious undertones. While some similar shades appear greenish or purple-pink, Egret White tends to land pretty darn neutral-looking.
Of the undertones, it can cater a bit more toward purple-pink finishes than green, for sure.
When surrounded by the right lighting and finishes (or the wrong ones, depending on how you look at it), you might see Egret White leaning just a weeee tiny wink toward beige – it’s quite the chameleon. However, it’s all so subtle that it can be left up to personal perception.
DOES EGRET WHITE LOOK PINK OR PURPLE?
Egret White and similar colors are well-known for appearing with purple or pink undertones in some lighting conditions. That said, Egret White is one of the more MUTED warm neutrals in this range.
If you’re sensitive to these undertones, it could still be okay. However, you may need to flip to the greige-green undertone world to better avoid these undertones.
FUN FACT: There are WAY more interior finishes that suit a color like Egret White compared to warm neutrals that lean green.

WHICH WHITE GOES WITH EGRET WHITE FOR TRIM & CABINETS?
While you’ll want to consider more than just Egret White when choosing a cabinet color (like countertop and backsplash), knowing the type of white it suits is a great place to start.
- Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace offers a brighter, cleaner contrast
- Sherwin Williams Pure White is one of my favorites as it offers a slightly softer contrast without too much warmth
- If you want to stay within brand, Sherwin Williams White Snow is comparable to BM’s Chantilly Lace.

THE BEST LIGHT BULB KELVINS FOR A ROOM PAINTED EGRET WHITE
When it comes to how warm or cool a light bulb is, personal preference definitely comes into play. However, whether you prefer a warm or cool light, your paint color has its own needs.
A color like Egret White does well with approx. 3000K. Sure, you can easily go down to 2700K for a bit more warmth or up around 3500K for a cleaner look, but beyond that, Egret White won’t be at its best.
WHERE EGRET WHITE DOES (& DOESN’T) WORK BEST
While it’s hugely flexible and versatile, Egret White isn’t the best color for every situation. Here’s a quick overview of the wins, then we’ll dive in (skinny dipping recommended).

IS IT GOOD WITH CREAM CABINETS & TRIM
That’s a hard no. In fact, it’s SO HARD I’m getting a little excited. Egret White is far too light and grayed-out to suit cream cabinets and trim.
Now, you might look at this next image and think ‘but that looks good, why can’t it work for me?‘
This furniture is more of a ‘warm, dirty off-white’ than a cream – cream has more yellow.
If your cabinets and trim are THIS MUTED, sure, Egret White might make the cut. However, in my 12,000+ in-home and virtual color consultations, the above is the rare exception. Most cream cabinets and trim have far more yellow, and often, a glaze.
The Best Paint Colors to Update Cream Cabinets & Trim
IS IT GOOD WITH WOOD FINISHES?
Egret White is gorgeous with a considerably wide range of wood finishes. In fact, there’s not a single wood stain I wouldn’t sample it against.

IS EGRET WHITE A GOOD EXTERIOR PAINT COLOR?
Egret White suits many roofs, and a reasonably wide range of stonework, more so than some other neutrals in this range. Note that Egret White often looks warmer and lighter than expected on an exterior.
If you want its color to show up a bit more, pair it with white trim. For a softer, more seamless look, paint your exterior siding/stucco and trim the same color.
5 Tips for Choosing an Exterior Paint Color
IS EGRET WHITE A GOOD COLOR FOR KITCHEN CABINETS?
Egret White could be popular for kitchen cabinets, especially for homeowners who love off-white and light-depth cabinet colors. However, because of its depth, Egret White is tricky to pair with wall colors if you want to see contrast. You’ll probably need white walls or a paint color with an LRV approximately 15-20 points lower (or paint your walls Egret White as well).
PAINT COLORS THAT ARE SIMILAR TO EGRET WHITE
When doing an Online Paint Color Consultation, I never just throw 1 color at my clients and cross my fingers. Instead, I carefully select a range of colors, often very similar colors to sample and compare.
While some rooms suit a range of neutrals, many suit only one or two. So, if Egret White has caught your eye, here are the colors you should compare with it.
SW EGRET WHITE VS. BENJAMIN MOORE PALE OAK
If we’re talking about popularity, Pale Oak is, by far, more popular than Egret White. While it previously got a bad rap for flashing too much pink for some, colors like this have become massively popular with my clients and followers (via the comments I get).

While comparing colors can overexploit one or the other’s intentions, it’s a great way to get an idea of which color is warmer, cooler, lighter, darker, etc.
Paint Color Review of Benjamin Moore Pale Oak
Depth-wise, they’re super comparable. While BM’s website puts Pale Oak at an LRV of 68.84 and SW’s website says Egret White is 70, my spectrophotometer puts them almost the same (yes, I am just like Inspector Gadget – GO GO GADGET, BOOBS! I wish). Regardless, the difference shouldn’t be the deciding factor between the 2. Instead, consider their temperature and overall look with your finishes and lighting.
- Which one appears warmer? Egret White
- Which one seems to have more color/undertone? Neither is overly strong, although Pale Oak wins by a touch.
EGRET WHITE VS. SHERWIN WILLIAMS SHOJI WHITE
Ahhhhh, now here’s a real battle! Just joking. Shoji White wins. But this doesn’t mean its the best color for any and every home. In fact, Egret White has whupped its butt many times in my consulting work.
Shoji White has an LRV of 74. Compared to Egret White (70), this makes it look lighter and more off-white.

As for intentions, while these 2 colors often vie for the same project, it depends on the room’s finishes and lighting. Sometimes, Egret White’s grayer-taupe look hits the spot. Other times, a room and/or owner needs a more muted, creamy look. This isn’t to say Shoji White is a cream. However, it can appear a bit that way, especially compared to a color like Egret White.
And if you’re thinking of color matching between brands (i.e., getting Benjamin Moore to make a Sherwin Williams paint color), you might want to read THIS first.
WHAT COLORS GO WITH EGRET WHITE?
Thanks to its depth and simple undertones, Egret White has plenty of coordinating colors. OF COURSE, it depends on what you need a partner color for: an adjoining room’s walls, accent wall, kitchen cabinets, trim, etc., but these should get you on the right path.
- GRAY PAINT COLORS: Explore gray paint colors that have a lower LRV than Egret White (nothing that’s lighter/higher LRV), particularly with blue or blue-green undertones
- SHADES OF GREEN: Medium and dark shades of green can be stunning with Egret White, making for dynamic accent walls, accent doors, and more.
- DARKER BLUE-GRAYS: Medium-depth or darker blue-gray blends can be beautiful in a palette.
- DARK GREIGE: For a gorgeous, organic palette, check out some darker shades of greige. some light-medium to medium depths can look good, too.
- DARK BLUE: While a brighter navy blue can be a bit too much for Egret White’s soft look, a more grounded dark blue can be stunning.

As usual, Kylie, your analysis is spot on! Thank you for your valuable insight. We just painted our study Egret White and absolutely love it! The room has two corner windows; one facing south, the other west. The color is what I would term a modern off-white shade with (non-yellow) warmth, a tiny touch of passive gray in a corner, and yes, as you stated…the tiniest bit of hardly noticeable violet if the light hits a certain way at a certain time. It’s not a factor in the overall effect of this sophisticated light neutral. While the roller was in use, I painted a poster board to use as a sample in other rooms since I am now looking around my house to see where else we can paint Egret White!

I’ve painted a huge poster board with Toque White for another painting project, (my home’s wall color scheme is SW Sandbar, Egret White, and Toque White) and it is such an incredibly soft, beautiful color in all light exposures, it occurred to me “people need to hear Kylie’s review of this one!”

Ooo, I would worry about Egret White making Greek Villa look even more yellow in comparison, just because it’s that bit taupe. It’s not a hard-no, it’s just a ‘sample carefully and see how it looks’.
I have a brick arch in my kitchen where my stovetop is. Same color brick as in the picture you show With Egret White. My cabinets are Mahogany. And the trim above the cabinets are also the color of the cabinets. Would Egret White look good with the cabinets?

Hey Debbie! Nope, there’s not enough contrast (difference in LRV) between the two. Also, Egret White caters to taupe undertones whereas Worldly has a green undercurrent!
Hi Kylie! Do you think Alabaster walls and trim would go well with Egret White kitchen cabinets? I also plan to have an iron ore island. My original plan was Alabaster cabinets as well, but now I’m wanting a little bit of difference between the walls and the kitchen cabinets.
ooo, I wouldn’t, Alabaster is a bit yellow for Egret White if you ask em ;). Not BAD, but definitely not ideal.
Do you think egret white would go with agreeable gray? I have whole house agreeable gray and considering painting master bedroom that has cathedral ceilings egret white. While the colors aren’t right next to each other , if the door is open to the bedroom then you can see the colors together and I don’t want them to clash. Hi Kylie! I just had two bathrooms and two bedrooms painted this color and it’s gorgeous! My primary bedroom and primary bathroom are 35 degrees NE. The bathrooms is bright and gorgeous… but the bedroom looks like a muted minty green. They are on the same side of the house. The bedrooms has brown furniture, warm lightbulbs, and a deep turquoise comforter. Any suggestions on why it looks a bit green and what might be causing this? Thank you for your help!
Hmmm. My first thought is that it could be the natural light bouncing off your grass/landscaping/trees, as that EASILY happens. Second, if the light bulbs are low quality (based on their CRI), this can cast a green glow on the walls, even if you have the right temperature! CRI is Color Rendering Index and it lets you know how TRUE it shows colors. 90+ is best, anything lower isn’t great and around 80 is green-casting. It’s hard to find this info on bulbs, but if you go to your lighting store and ask a pro, I bet they can direct you to the best bulb for the job!
What about SW egret white as an exterior trim color? Main body will be BM Hale navy. Windows are white vinyl. I am concerned about the stark white of vinyl and an off-white trim color.
Yeeeah, I might be nervous, too, and I would lean more toward a cleaner white rather than a light-depth color. It could also seem winky and dingy compared to the color of Hale Navy.

It totally depends on the room. If the room is reasonably well-lit and the ceilings are 9′ or higher, yup. HOWEVER, I would lean into Pure White for the trims/ceilings :). This bit of contrast just shows off how pretty Egret White is more than blending it in with itself.
Hello, so I was considering this Egret white colour for my pantry. It’s a small walk through pantry with no natural light. I have used sw Snowbound throughout my home for my main colour. It is beautiful. I want my pantry to be a bit darker and not so bright but also go with Snowbound, so am I far off here? I have a brown grey vinyl plank, bright white kitchen, Snowbound is also used for most of my trim. Other colours ad accents I have are sw tricorn black and sw retreat.

I do liiiiike Snowbound and Egret White, not as much initially as Snowbound usually wants a color that’s a touch cooler, however, it often looks warm on trim, which has me feeling better about it :).

Looking to upgrade our home exterior and can’t quite decide between Egret white, gossamer veil or alabaster. We have light gray metal roof and it is a corner lot and gets lots of light under the Florida sun. At first, I was leaning to an off-white, but Greek villa looks washed out in the afternoon with the sun beating on the south side. So, looking now to neutrals, but throwing in Egret white and Alabaster in the mix(thinking more along the lines of the heat during the summer). Any advice is greatly appreciated and thank you!
Hi Kylie! Thank you so much for your detailed reviews. I’m having a hard time deciding between Egret White and White Duck for the exterior of my house. The house faces east, so we get a lot of morning light and afternoon light in the back. It’s kind of an old farmhouse look with painted cedar shingles. We currently have a cream/off-white color (maybe oyster white), and we initially wanted something less yellow, but I sort of like the look of White Duck. Will White Duck’s yellow/orange undertones show up too much in the sun? Will Egret White look dingy or dirty when it’s cloudy or will it still have some warmth?
Also, would a teal or blue-green color for the door and shutters look good with White Duck?
I would greatly appreciate any help deciding!
Hmmm, to answer your questions – yes, yes…and yes :). It can be hard to get a color to do what you want it to in ALL lights. Sometimes it’s about hitting that color that ‘more or less’ hits the spot. For example, I don’t love my exterior color as much on the back of my home, but I LOVE it on the front of my home. This is even more the case with these flexible warm neutrals that are so light, with their higher LRVs and neutral base, they can really respond to their surroundings/natural light. Without seeing your home, I would GENERALLY favor Egret White over White Duck as I don’t love when the yellow pops up in White Duck.

Hi Kylie, I have been watching several of your videos as we are ready to lacquer our kitchen cabinets. The idea is to have an off-white/earthy color (oyster?) for the cabinets and a bright white for the walls (i.e. pure white). The hardware is to be brushed gold. We are seriously thinking of Egret White for the cabinets. The other option is White Henon, but I am worried that there would not be too much contrast. Would love your input! Thank you!
Oh, I would definitely lean into Egret White over White Heron. BTW, some lacquer paints can make a color look more yellow than expected, so keep that in mind!

For our master bedroom Im thinking sw Ripe olive for a dark and moody look. For my sons bedroom Im sort of stuck between sw waterloo and sw smokey blue. I know you said blue gray in the post would go well.

Hi Kylie! we are remodeling our 1st floor and are leaning towards Egret White for the walls and Pure white for the trim and doors. The kitchen cabinets, we are leaning towards Agreeable Gray as I do not want a super light color for our cabinets.. I’m wondering if there will be enough of a.contrast between cabinets and walls. the kitchen gets some south facing light but not a whole lot …which has me a little worried. ant guidance would be greatly appreciated!
Hey Veronica, there isn’t a huge degree of contrast between Egret White and Agreeable Gray. Aim for 20+ LRV points between the two colors, that can be a good place to start 🙂
I did an exterior color consult and the painters start on Monday! It was a great process. Egret white exterior and I was all set with requisite gray garage door and front door. My husband wants a blue front door. Help, that wasn’t in the plan… what blue with egret white? Thank you!
