What type of paint color is Amazing Gray? Is it warm or cool?

Amazing Gray is a greige paint color – not as warm as beige, but not as cool as gray (with a mild preference to the gray side of things). But regardless of which way it leans, it’s still considered a WARM paint color. It can flex a bit more into gray in northern light but will lean into its soft warmth in south-facing or afternoon west-facing light.

What’s the LRV of Amazing Gray?

Amazing Gray has an LRV of 47. With this LRV, you can expect to see some GOOD contrast with white trim and it would likely be a bit TOO dark to be used as a ‘whole home’ paint color. If you have a bright room, it will add some balance to that bright light, but if you have a dark room, Amazing Gray could look a bit flat and dingy (learn more about LRV HERE).

What are the undertones of Amazing Gray? Will it look green, blue or purple?

When it comes to greige and gray paint colors, you will often see a noticeable blue, purple or green undertone – nature of the beast! Amazing Gray commits more to a green undertone that’s subtle, but noticeable, so if you don’t like green undertones, you PROBABLY won’t love this color and you may want to read this instead.

Oooo, I do like Sherwin Williams Pure White with Amazing Gray. It has a passive warmth that sits really soft with it, while still contrasting nicely.

Is Amazing Gray a good color for the exterior of my home?

Well, I’m not saying no, but I will say that in the hundreds of exterior paint color consultations I’ve done, I’ve not suggested Amazing Gray more than three times. It’s just not a color that sits well with most stones, bricks or roof colors.

Is Amazing Gray a popular greige paint color?

Amazing Gray is in the middle for sure. There are MORE popular greige paint colors with reduced undertones (ie: Sherwin Williams Anew Gray), but there are also LESS popular choices. It’s more that people tend to lean into the lighter end of things when choosing colors for the ‘average’ room.

What paint colors are the same as or similar to Worldly Gray?

You won’t find an exact match for ANY color between brands – you WILL see shifts in undertones, temperature and depths. However, there are some with similar intentions, but different approaches…
