WHAT TYPE OF COLOR IS MEGA GREIGE?

Mega Greige is a greige-taupe paint color. What does this mean? Well, greige paint colors commit to a green undertone, and taupe paint colors commit to violet-pink. This crazy color winks at both without fully committing to either, making it super versatile. Either way, Mega Greige sits between gray and beige, which makes it a WARM paint color.

Even in cool northern light, Mega Greige will hold its color without falling cold. In a south-facing room or room with western afternoon sunshine, expect Mega Greige to lean into its warm roots in a wonderful way!

WHAT’S THE LRV OF MEGA GREIGE?

Mega Greige has an LRV of 37, making it a medium-depth paint color. However, as far as colors in this range go, Mega Greige is on the lighter, softer side (learn more HERE).

With this LRV, Mega Greige has the potential to look a bit flat or dull in a low-light room, whether that’s due to not enough natural or interior lighting. However, with this slightly lower LRV, Mega Greige is an awesome choice for those who want to give a bit of depth and body to their well-lit room without weighing it down too much.

As you can see in the above photo, Mega Greige falls a bit flat. It passes the test because the white board & batten add contrast, energy, and life to the space. If all of the walls were Mega Greige, it would look way too drab.

IS MEGA GREIGE A GOOD COLOR FOR CABINETS?

A million times, yes. While I haven’t had many Online Color Consulting clients choose it, Mega Greige can be gorgeous for kitchen cabinets, lower cabinets (with white uppers), a kitchen island, or bathroom vanity.

WHAT ARE MEGA GREIGE’S UNDERTONES?

As you learned earlier, Mega Greige is pretty uncommitted to being anything but ‘neutral.’ While this can be a great thing about Mega Greige, if your finishes NEED a purposeful violet-pink or green undertone, Mega Greige might not be enough. While there’s a tiny green hue hiding deep inside, it rarely shows up at the party.

With this subtlety, colors like Mega Greige, and its lighter versions, Anew Gray and Agreeable Gray, can even look slightly taupe (violet undertone) in some situations. Remember, the LESS a paint color commits to one undertone, the more likely it is to flash into the others.

IS MEGA GREIGE A GOOD EXTERIOR COLOR?

HECK YES (that’s my inside voice yelling at you that it’s awesome), Mega Greige is an amazeballs exterior color. With its slightly lower LRV, it holds up well to exterior light, which can really blow out the color of a home when it’s in full force. Mega Greige also has the right neutral approach to suit a wide range of roof colors, as well as stone and brickwork.
