Sherwin Williams Cyberspace SW 7076: Paint Color Review
Sherwin Williams Cyberspace: a calmer approach to navy blue
When it comes to choosing the right shade of blue for your home, it’s not as easy as you think. Blue-green, blue-violet, intense blues, muted blues – there’s a whole GAMUT of colors to choose from. So, how do you choose YOUR best shade? You keep reading.

WHAT TYPE OF COLOR IS CYBERSPACE – IS IT NAVY BLUE?
Cyberspace is a WICKED shade of blue, but with its gray foundation, it’s not quite saturated enough to be a real ‘navy blue.’ But while there are BRIGHTER navy blue paint colors available, Cyberspace is a great way to get a strong look without going over the top in color.
WHAT’S THE LRV OF SW CYBERSPACE?
Cyberspace has a super low LRV of 6, which means it’s well into the dark range. Can it look blackish? If you don’t give it enough light, yes, but as long as you give it ‘some,’ the blue should come through.
Not sure what LRV is? It could save your paint-lovin’ life – read all about it HERE.
WHAT ARE CYBERSPACE’S UNDERTONES?
Cyberspace is a blue hue, but as mentioned above, it’s TEMPERED by some gray. This gray calms it down, so it’s not as strong as, say, Benjamin Moore Hale Navy or Sherwin Williams Naval.
Will Cyberspace look gray? Nope, it has too much color (chroma) for that, but don’t expect a rip-roaring shade of blue—it’s one cool and collected color.

WHAT’S THE BEST WHITE TRIM OR CABINET COLOR WITH CYBERSPACE?
THERE ARE SO MANY! If I were starting from scratch, I might look at…
- Sherwin Williams Pure White, for sure.
- Sherwin Williams Extra White
- Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace
- Benjamin Moore White Dove
- The only white I wouldn’t partner it with is one that’s TOO warm/creamy

IS CYBERSPACE A GOOD EXTERIOR PAINT COLOR?
If you’re thinking of Cyberspace for your front door or shutters, I would say YES (as long as it suits the other features of your home). If you’re thinking of it for the siding on your home, just make sure you know what you’re getting into. It’s a super dark color and may fade faster with south-facing or afternoon western sunshine. This being said, it’s darn pretty.
5 Tips for Choosing an Exterior Paint Color
Cyberspace is a great option for this next red-orange brick exterior…
In this photo, you’re looking at Samplize Peel & Stick samples of Cyberspace (top), Benjamin Moore Gray 2121-10 (middle), and Benjamin Moore Cheating Heart (bottom).
IS CYBERSPACE THE MOST POPULAR DARK BLUE PAINT COLOR?
Yes, as far as Sherwin Williams is concerned. However, the comparable Benjamin Moore Hale Navy (which we’ll talk about shortly) is the top runner between the two brands.
IS IT A GOOD PAINT COLOR FOR KITCHEN CABINETS OR AN ISLAND?
YES, YES, YES! In fact, it’s one of my favorite blue cabinet colors as it’s SO versatile…

WHAT COLORS ARE SIMILAR TO SW CYBERSPACE
Every color has particular nuances, and there will be no perfect match—you WILL see shifts in undertones, temperature, and depths, but you could check out…
CYBERSPACE vs. BENJAMIN MOORE HALE NAVY
It’s the clash of the titans between these two. Both blues take a shot at the title, but it depends on which title you’re going for. Hale Navy is a more traditional approach to navy blue, whereas Cyberspace has more gray, calming the intensity down.
As for depth, Cyberspace has an LRV of 6, whereas Hale Navy is 8.36. However, because Hale Navy has more blue, it can come off as the stronger color.
And when it comes to choosing the best one for kitchen islands, the slightly more muted look of Cyberspace often wins. However, on front doors and accent walls, it’s a tie!

CYBERSPACE vs. NAVAL
When comparing dark blue paint colors, these two often come up, but they’re coming at blue in different ways.
Cyberspace, as we know, is blue with a nice dollop of gray calming it down. As for Naval? There’s not much gray to be found in this sailor! Not only is Naval more colorful than Cyberspace, but it’s more colorful than Hale Navy, too, taking navy blue to the next level without being a primary blue.

WHAT COLORS GO WITH CYBERSPACE?
There are TONS of paint colors that would love to be partnered with Cyberspace…
- Cyberspace makes a great feature wall with many cream paint colors, creamy whites, and most warm whites.
- Cyberspace loves greige paint colors, both light and somewhat darker.
- Cyberspace looks sharp with grays with soft violet undertones, like On the Rocks and Collingwood. It also loves grays with a touch of blue, such as Sherwin Williams Big Chill. However, it doesn’t love grays that have a wink o’ green in them quite as much.

I have sw cyberspace on front door and shutters! We live in a small ranch home but my front porch is recessed! Love cyberspace but dark for recessed porch! Any suggestions on a change of color for front door? And do I need to paint shutters?
Hi Deborah! Well, it can depend on your home and the products on it, but USUALLY the best choice with navy blue shutters would be a black front door (which wouldn’t help you much with your dark situation, although I find that sometimes the clean CONTRAST of a sharp black can be nice in a darker area). Some people do red, but not every home can support a red front door!
I picked out Cyberspace for my kitchen island! I’m a little afraid to do something so crazy but I’m going to give it a shot. What do you think about a Cyberspace island with White Dove cabinets and Edgecomb Gray walls? Thanks for your help!
Hi Emily, I think that sounds LOVELY as long as White Dove suits your countertop/backsplash! If not, check out SW Pure White too 🙂
I’m considering doing Cyberspace or Peppercorn for lower cabinets and white uppers. Any thoughts on which color to pick and which white would look best? I was thinking Alabaster, but would a more stark white look better?
Hi Sara! Yes, I’d clean that up a bit along the lines of SW Pure White 🙂
Hi! Do you think cyberspace would look good as an accent wall to repose gray walls?
It definitely could be!
what do you think about painting a multifamily (2 family) home in cyberspace?
Exterior? Yes, as long as it suits the roof and any brick/stone. The entire interior? Nope :). I’m going to assume you mean the exterior ;). BM Deep Space can look pretty wicked too!
Do you think cyberspace kitchen/bathroom cabinets with pure white walls and trim would look good together? We are doing the walls and trim in different sheens. Any opinion would be great!! We are remodeling our home and need all the help we can get!
Well, Hannah, if you ask me (and without knowing any other details), this sounds awesome!
Hi Kylie, thank you for all your help with paint colors always, I watch many of your videos. I am really torn. We are are looking to paint the exterior of our home and we compared it to a home in our neighborhood that used egret white as the main house color and cyberspace for their roof (yes they painted the barrell tile, which we will too) and their front and garage doors. Although it looks nice, it looks a little too contemporary for our taste but I love cyberspace. My question is can I do cyberspace on the roof and front door but use natural tan by Sherwin Williams or Dover white instead of egret white? I am trying to not go for such a stark contemporary feel. more of a warm feel for the house color? What do you think? thank you so much.
Im planning on doing a TV accent wall with some board and batten in my basement (walk-out but otherwise 3000k recessed lights). I’m deciding between BM Mysterious and SW Cyberspace. How do they compare? The “everywhere else color else color” is currently between BM Pale Oak, SW Egret White, and SW Natural tan. Trim/cabinetry is BM White Dove.
I’ve watched your videos and read your blogs about those undertones and drab grieges in the basements. Will any of these paint colors or combos bring that “wow” effect?
After months of agonizing (yes, I read Kylie’s article on overthinking) we bit the bullet and painted our entire exterior SW Cyberspace! We love it, the neighbors love it, and our painter even asked of he could share pictures because all his painter buddies wanted to see it! We’re on a lake in North Georgia with trees around, so hoping it doesn’t fade and turn purple. We did use the Emerald line of paint. I can’t seem to share a picture, but would be happy to.
WAHOOOOO, i bet this looks amazing, I would MORE than love to see some photos if you’d like to send them to kylie@kylieminteriors.ca!!!! Thank you!
Hello, what color trim did you use with your Cyberspace exterior?
Sounds beautiful. If you did the trim can you share with us the color you went with?
Do you have pics??
I would also LOVE a picture and update on how the color is doing, I am a few days away from doing the same color for exterior!!!! Alissia.downey@icloud.com
Hello, I am agonizing about whether to paint my exterior Cyberspace and can never get enough pictures – can you please share? Thanks for considering! Deadline in 2 days 🙂
I’m thinking of doing Cyberspace for shutters. I have Pale Oak hardi exterior and brick with a stained wood door and columns. Would this be too busy?
It doesn’t sound too busy, although the slightly less blue BM Cheating Heart or Wrought Iron could be pretty too 🙂
Hi Kylie!
I took your advice after reading your post on this wonderful color…I have deep cherry wood floors and wanted to expand my TV room space (since the room is too small to begin with). Using Creamy on three of the walls, went with Cyberspace on the TV wall for accent-all I can say is WOW. Just love it! Thank you:)
Hi Kylie!
Bachelor in need of advice. Could you paint a basement media room cyberspace, or would that be too dark? I have a bedroom painted SW Naval and I absolutely love the color with lamps on, but even better is how I love the way it eats the light at nighttime!
Well, PERSONALLY, I love dark colors and wouldn’t even hesitate to do Cyberspace! Media Rooms can definitely hold this type of color and often make more sense!
Hi Kylie, I don’t know if you’ll see this since this post isn’t super recent, but do you think a dark moody SW Cyberspace living room would work with SW Bohemian Lace trim/ceiling/other room’s walls (including the kitchen, visible from the living room)? And interior doors in SW Worldly Gray?
Hey Andi! It’s so hard to say for sure without seeing the room, but off the top, it SOUNDS like it coudl work! I’m a huge fan of dark colors 🙂
I just painted my cabinets accessible biege but my wall was sw march run. It looks bad. Could I change that wall to cyberspace or would that be too dark in my south facing room? Any other suggestions?
Hey Erika, I bet your Accessible Beige cabinets look AMAZING! Now, I can’t really say a lot for SURE without seeing the surrounding finishes, as they call just as many shots. Off the TOP, Cyberspace can be pretty, but so can something like SW Cityscape, Grizzle Gray, Dovetail. There are TONS. Cyberspace is super dark, but some rooms can handle it!
Hi, happy new year! We just finished my basement. I love the color cyberspace & decided to paint my exposed basement ceiling it.it looks amazing but I have no clue what color walls or floors I should do. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Kylie! do you think a cyberspace wall would look good paired with white duck walls and pure white trim?
Yup!
Looking to paint an accent wall in an office either cyberspace, hale navy, or cheating heart. The window faces west and the wall that would be painted is perpendicular to that window. The wall that will be painted faces north. The other walls are painted with sw pure white. Which of the three should I go with?
Hi Kylie. I’m debating between painting the media/tv/game room in our walkout basement in cyberspace or peppercorn. We have high ceilings and recessed (warm) lighting and 3 windows with northern exposure. Our furniture is a medium brown leather with sort of medium greige end tables with black hardware. Not worried about the flooring yet as that is a later project. The peppercorn looks really good with the furniture and I was sure that was the color until I sampled cyberspace and it seemed to make the furniture pop in contrast better. Would either of these colors look too dingy and depressing ? Looking for a warm cozy but moody area for movies and games.
It comes down to personal preference, but of the two, I LOVE Cyberspace with its moody blue hue!
