Benjamin Moore Manchester Tan: LRV, Undertones & a Little More
As far as tan and beige paint colors go, Manchester Tan has been kickin’ it longer than most. However, just because it’s FAMILIAR doesn’t mean it’s the best color for your home, and it’s vital you do your research (you’ve come to the right place)!
What type of paint color is Manchester Tan? Is it warm or cool?
Manchester Tan is a warm neutral tan paint color. This means that while it’s definitely warm, it’s not as strong as some of the other popular tan and beige paint colors on the market – it takes a more subtle approach.
What’s the LRV of Manchester Tan?
Manchester Tan has an LRV of 63.24, meaning it sits REALLY nicely in the light range – not too washed out OR weighed-down.

The Ultimate Guide to Choosing Paint Colors with LRV
With its LRV of 64, Manchester Tan holds itself REASONABLY well in a room with more than average natural light. However, like ANY lighter paint color, it will wash out in an OVERLY bright room. On the other hand, the depth of Manchester Tan can add body and personality to a darker room without weighing it down TOO much. This being said, without enough interior lighting, it can look a bit drab.
What are the undertones of Manchester Tan? Will it look yellow or green?
While the main undertone of Manchester Tan is yellow, it has a wink o’ green hiding deep inside of it. To say it’s passive would be an overstatement, however, partner it with a finish with opposite undertones and it could show up to the party. As for its yellow undertone, Manchester Tan is quite muted as the yellow falls back considerably. If you’re nervous about yellow, do some comparisons with other similar colors to see how it settles for you.

What’s the best way to sample Manchester Tan?
Like with every paint color, I highly recommend using SAMPLIZE.
Samplize has peel & stick paint samples that are made with ACTUAL Benjamin Moore paint. They’re also more affordable and easier to use than traditional sample pots.

What’s the best white trim color with Manchester Tan?
When it comes to Manchester Tan, it’s reasonably flexible as it relates to warm whites, such as…
- Benjamin Moore Cloud White
- Benjamin Moore Simply White
I wouldn’t partner Manchester with a cold white or one that’s TOO creamy/yellow.

Why isn’t Manchester Tan as popular?
Oh, it’s popular, but only in crowds that love warm colors that lean into yellow-green undertones vs orange-pink (one of the main differences between beige and tan paint colors).

I think Manchester Tan would be perfect for my living room and dining room. However, I have trim and window shutters that are painted SW Alabaster and cannot be changed.
Would Manchester Tan walls work with my Alabaster trim?
Thanks!

I see NO problem with this at all, Renee!
hi!! Was painting my north facing (but adequately lit ) living room accessible beige or modern gray. We have a warm white trim though. which works better in your opinion? also, the living room opens up into the dining room which is light french grey so I want them to coordinate obviously (literally drowning in paint samples!)
I have Manchester Tan on my kitchen wall and I am looking for a light creamy Yellow for cabinets and trim. What can anyone recommend. I have Butter Rum laminate countertop with a stone pattern floor.
Can I increase Manchester tan by 50% more color and how would it look
I have sherwin camelback on my walls right now and thinking of a change

You can definitely try! 50% sounds like a lot, and while it’s noticeable, it’s not SUPER drastic. I can’t say how it will look though as I’ve never tried it! I would imagine a touch more green undertone ‘might’ pop up.
