Benjamin Moore Grant Beige (HC-83): Undertones, LRV, & Real Home Results
Benjamin Moore Grant Beige is a warm, light-medium tan paint color. It works well on interior walls, especially in open-concept spaces and bedrooms.
Its sneaky undertone can influence how it looks with wood stains, tile, and other interior finishes.
But that doesn’t mean it isn’t the perfect color for you and your home. Grant Beige is one of those paint colors that keeps on working, and today, we’re going to find out why!

WHAT TYPE OF COLOR IS GRANT BEIGE – BEIGE OR TAN?
While a lot of people assume beige and tan are the same thing (and they’re close), I see them a bit differently. Grant Beige is more like a tan in my books, as it doesn’t have the traditional golden warmth of many beige paint colors and falls back a bit more soft and neutral, consistent with many of the popular tan paint colors.
BEIGE PAINT COLORS: Tend to cater to an orange undertone (which can lean orange-yellow or orange-pink with the odd flash of green).
TAN PAINT COLORS: Cater to a yellow undertone (which can lean yellow-orange or yellow-green).
North, East, South, West – Which Paint Color is the Best?
Warm paint colors like Grant Beige can be great for warming up a cold north-facing room. And because it’s not as golden warm as some old-school beiges, it can even work in a south-facing room or one with western afternoon sun. This said, expect it to warm up considerably in these lights!
WHAT’S THE LRV OF GRANT BEIGE?
With an LRV of 56, Grant Beige is teetering on the edge of the light range, but giving a SOLID nod to the light-medium end of things, with a bit more visual weight than some other popular tan paint colors.
Not sure what LRV is? It could save your paint lovin’ life – read all about it HERE.
Be careful if you have a room with low natural light, as Grant Beige could look dingy or flat. You might want to consider one of these colors instead. However, with reasonable lighting, Grant Beige holds itself quite well.
WHAT ARE GRANT BEIGE’S UNDERTONES?
When it comes to tan paint colors, many people worry about pink, orange, yellow, or green undertones. While you don’t need to fuss about orange or pink, yellow and green are definitely part of Grant Beige’s foundation.
All beige and tan paint colors have undertones, and Grant Beige is no exception.

It’s about figuring out which undertones your interior finishes best suit. Truth be told, 95% of interior finishes cater to BEIGE, not tan. However, you might have a room with minimal considerations or be in that 5%, so keep reading (as I’ll talk about great alternatives to sample, too).
WHAT’S THE BEST WHITE TRIM COLOR WITH GRANT BEIGE?
Being a tan with a bit of meat on its bones, it’s pretty flexible as to white paint colors that go with it, including…
- Benjamin Moore Cloud White
- Benjamin Moore White Dove
- Sherwin Williams Greek Villa
- Benjamin Moore Simply White

IS GRANT BEIGE A GOOD EXTERIOR COLOR?
Grant Beige can work with some exteriors, but not many. With its minor yellow-green undertone, it can be a bit off with some of the popular stone and brick colors, which often pick up a mild orange, purple, or pink undertone. Just check things carefully to make sure they’re jibing.

IS GRANT BEIGE A POPULAR NEUTRAL?
Not particularly, no. That doesn’t mean it won’t work for you, but as far as trends go, people are leaning more toward lighter shades of beige.

WHAT COLORS ARE SIMILAR TO GRANT BEIGE?
Every color has its own particular nuances, and there will be NO perfect match – you WILL see shifts in undertones, temperature, and depths, but you could check out…
- Benjamin Moore Manchester Tan is lighter (and more popular) with a slightly brighter, more flexible profile.
- For a touch more warmth, check out Sherwin Williams Sand Beach and Nantucket Dune.
- Sherwin Williams Sandbar is similar to Grant Beige but has more muted undertones.
- If we step away from Grant Beige into a more popular shade, we’ll look at Benjamin Moore Muslin (a beige), Sherwin Williams Natural Tan (a tan) and Sherwin Williams Accessible Beige

WHAT COLORS GO WITH GRANT BEIGE?
Due to its slightly lower LRV and yellow-green undertones, Grant Beige has some preferences regarding its color palette partners.
- Grant Beige can look good with some muted cream paint colors
- You can also look at some grays, especially ones with a blue undertone that are a bit darker than Grant Beige
- Grant Beige likes to be partnered with more earth-toned, grayed-out paint colors, in general
- It looks fabulous with a wide range of warm, creamy whites.

Hello! Love your blog and you tube color reviews! Learning so much about color undertones and LRV value. I am considering Grant Beige or Coastal Fog for my family room. I currently have Glacial Till, Ben Moore Affinity color, and want to lighten up just a tad and also take away some of the pink undertones I see in my bright sunshine filled room. Like that paint color so much more at night! Thanks for the review on Grant Beige. Looking forward to sampling it.
Hi Kylie. Trying to decide between BM Grant Beige and SW Accessible Beige for the main areas of my home. Which one is warmer and are they both truly “neutral”? I have dark wood floors upstairs, reddish-toned Acacia downstairs, and dark furniture throughout. I would like a decent contrast with my white crown molding and baseboards. My kitchen is painted in Manchester Tan, so needs to not clash with that. My family room is two-story with a huge pocket slider, so lots of natural light. Thank you for any guidance you can provide!
Hi Kylie, what white color is the last picture that goes with grant beige? the one with the double front door.
Hi! If you’re looking at the walls in this photo, they’re Accessible Beige – the double doors are SW Alabaster 🙂
Hi, I have an open concept kitchen and living and would like a cabinet color recommendations that would compliment Grant Beige walls with White Dove trim, and Dragon Breath kitchen island? I don’t mind changing the island color if needed but I am set on the other two.
I was thinking of Pashmina but feel it’s too dark and don’t want to lighten it in fear that it would show pink. I also thought about Revere Pewter but don’t want it to look gray.
I have medium to dark brown stained wood flooring in living area with light color tile in kitchen. All north facing side of home. I would like a light to medium neutral color that will show with Grant Beige walls without appearing yellow, pink or purple undertones or washout in the daylight. I do not want a pure white or gray. Thank you for any suggestions you may have.
