Sherwin Williams Web Gray: Popular & Pretty
If you’re searching for the best dark gray paint colour for your cabinets, walls or exterior, your preferences matter a LOT. HOWEVER, you need to focus on the colours that your HOME loves first. And what makes a home love a colour? The right undertones and the right LRV. This is why we’re taking an up-close and personal look at Sherwin Williams Web Gray to see if it can work for your home…and you!
In order to show you RELATEABLE & REAL homes, I ONLY use photos from my Online Colour Consulting clients. This means I don’t always have the quality photos I need or the RIGHT photos, but DEFINITELY have some SUPER helpful info to help you on your way!
Is Web Gray a warm or cool gray paint colour?
There’s no doubt about it, Web Gray is a COOL gray paint colour. Even if you put it in a room with south-facing light or golden western afternoon sunshine, it will still look cool (whereas some grays can lean much warmer).
What’s the LRV of Web Gray?
Web Gray has an LRV of 13, so while it’s certainly in the medium-dark range, it’s not in the legit DARK end of things (these colours have LRVs of 10 and under). If you have a bright room or good exterior light, you might be surprised at how much lighter Web Gray can look, as shown in the above photo. On the other hand, while it can suit some darker spaces, you might miss out on its beautiful undertones and nuances.
Not sure what LRV is? It could save your paint lovin’ life – read all about it HERE.
What are the undertones of Web Gray? Will it look blue, green or violet?
Every gray paint colour has undertones; doesn’t matter whether the gray is light or dark. Web Gray favours a BLUE undertone, but it’s a very flexible blue. While it IS a slight blue-green, if you partner it with a colour that has more green to it, it can seem slightly blue-violet just in comparison.
What’s the best way to sample Web Gray?
Undoubtedly, you’ll be heading out in the near future to grab paint samples – stop right there! I want you to check out SAMPLIZE. Samplize offers peel and stick paint samples that are more AFFORDABLE, EASIER and more ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY than traditional paint pots. Here are just a FEW reasons why I recommend Samplize to my clients…
- samples arrive ON YOUR DOORSTEP in 1-3 business days, depending on location
- they’re more affordable than the samples pots/rollers/foam boards that are needed for traditional paint sampling
- if you keep the samples on their white paper, you can move them around the room

If my walls or exterior are Web Gray, what’s the best white paint colour for my trim?
Web Gray is pretty darned flexible, and while it does love the simple look of Sherwin Williams Extra White or High Reflective White, it’s also happy with the subtle warmth of Sherwin Williams Pure White and Benjamin Moore White Dove.
Is Web Gray a good exterior colour?
Web Gray can be a beautiful exterior colour. With its undertones, it’s less likely to suit some of the common brick and stone surfaces, but if you have a home with fewer exterior surfaces to consider, it’s worth checking out!
Does Benjamin Moore have a colour similar to Web Gray
Every paint colour has its own personality and nuances – there will be NO perfect match. You can fully expect to see shifts in undertones, temperature, and depths. In fact, I don’t see a single one worth comparing that’s ‘close enough’ to bother. Really, the next best comparison is Sherwin Williams Roycroft Pewter (link below).
And if you’re thinking of colour matching between brands (ie: getting Benjamin Moore to make a Sherwin Williams paint colour), you might want to read THIS first.
