Sherwin Williams Eider White: LRV, Undertones and a Little More
Eider White is often referred to as a great off-white gray paint colour – and it IS, but it has some VERY SERIOUS nuances to consider!
I love to show RELATEABLE & REAL homes, so ONLY use photos from my Online Colour Consulting clients. This means I don’t always have the quality pics I need (hence the ‘QUICK Review’), but DEFINITELY have some SUPER helpful info to help you on your way!
What type of paint colour is Eider White? Is it greige, gray or taupe? Warm or cool?
Eider White is definitely a WARM GRAY paint colour, but not one of the POPULAR gray paint colours as its depth, temperature and undertones set it apart (which we’ll get into shortly).
If you have north-facing light, you might see Eider White lean that bit more gray and the undertone can pop up a bit more, whereas it will go warmer in south-facing or afternoon western light.
What’s the LRV of Eider White?
Eider White’s LRV is 73, which puts it in the off-white range…but not by much (learn more HERE). If you have a bright room, it can really wash-out. If you have a DARK room, this type of paint colour can look dingy and flat if you don’t have reasonable interior lighting.
Not sure what LRV is? It could save your paint lovin’ life – read all about it HERE.
What are the undertones of Eider White? Will it look gray, purple, pink or blue?
Every gray has undertones, including warm grays. Eider White FAVOURS a soft slightly warm purple undertone which can lean a wink cooler in northern light and a bit warmer in south-facing or afternoon western light.
What’s the best way to sample Eider White?
Like with every paint colour, I highly recommend using SAMPLIZE. Samplize is a peel & stick paint sample that you can easily move around your room for over HALF THE COST of traditional sample pots – and they deliver right to your front door!

Is Eider White a good colour for the exterior of my home?
When it comes to white and off-white paint colours on an exterior, you DO need to be careful and be aware of the undertones, which CAN rise up on a large scale. This means that Eider White does worry me a bit, as that purple can come up. That being said, it can also suit a lot of the popular stone, brick and roof colours and I’ve seen it turn out quite well.

And if you’re thinking of colour matching between brands (ie: getting BM to make an SW paint colour), you might want to read THIS first.
Is Eider White a popular paint colour right now?
Eider White is out there, but I wouldn’t say it’s one of the popular off-white paint colours, simply because its undertones make some people nervous.
What type of paint colours look good with Eider White?
If I’m partnering Eider White up with other colours in a palette, I’m most likely to check out…
- Gray paint colours that are the same depth or darker than Eider White. It can look particularly nice with some grays with blue undertones
- Eider White also suits a palette with WHITE walls in other rooms
- Darker gray or charcoal paint colours with a soft purple undertone, however, even the right green or blue can look nice too
