BENJAMIN MOORE SILVER SATIN: A FEATHER-LIGHT WARM GRAY
When it comes to choosing the best paint color for you and your home, it’s important to do your homework BEFORE you start slapping paint on those walls!
This is why today, we’re taking an up close and personal look at a GORGEOUS light gray paint color from Benjamin Moore…
What type of paint color is Silver Satin? Is it warm or cool?
Silver Satin is a warm gray paint color, not as warm as its kissin’ cousin, Classic Gray, but a great choice if you’re looking for a more subtle approach (Silver Satin is also SLIGHTLY lighter than Classic Gray).
If you have a north-facing room, Silver Satin will lean back on its gray heels; expect it to look a wink cooler. In the southern sun or a warm western afternoon, it will shift into slightly warmer gear without looking beige.

What’s the LRV of Silver Satin?
Silver Satin has an LRV of 74.9, parking it near the beginning of the off-white range. If you have a SUPER bright room or a few walls that get hit with natural light, it will wash out quite a bit, but so will any color that doesn’t have a good whack of depth to it (i.e. LRV -55).
Just be careful of Silver Satin in a dark room, as its higher LRV and lack of obvious chroma (color) can leave it looking a touch dingy.

Does Silver Satin have undertones?
You bet your BOOTY it does – every gray has undertones. However, Silver Satin comes in pretty darn subtle with a minor violet undertone that rarely flashes into green (the less undertone a color has, the more likely it is to pick up others).
What’s the best way to sample Silver Satin?
Undoubtedly, you’ll be heading out soon to grab paint samples – stop there! I want you to check out SAMPLIZE. Samplize offers peel-and-stick paint samples that are more AFFORDABLE, EASIER and more ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY than traditional paint pots. Here are just a few reasons why I recommend Samplize to my clients…
- samples arrive ON YOUR DOORSTEP in 1 DAY, depending on the location
- they’re more affordable than the samples pots/rollers/foam boards that are needed for traditional paint sampling
- if you keep the samples on their white paper, you can move them around the room easily, taking the backing off once you’ve narrowed things down

Is Silver Satin a popular color for kitchen cabinets?
With cabinet trends leaning into soft whites and off-whites, I wouldn’t be surprised to see Silver Satin pop up. However, I recommend either shifting to white for LONGEVITY or picking a shade with a bit more purpose/depth – Silver Satin is too non-committal on cabinets for this cowgirl and you have to watch that violet hue.
