THE MOST POPULAR GREIGE (WARM GRAY/TAUPE) CABINET COLOR
While white is the most timeless (safest) choice for kitchen cabinets, many have fallen in love with the softer approach of off-white and light-depth cabinets. And while they come with their challenges, non-white cabinets have taken over our Instagram feeds as the ‘go-to’ colors for kitchen cabinets.
And of these more subtle warm neutrals, there’s one color that my Online Color Consulting clients have been craving – Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray.
While some see Agreeable Gray as a considerably warm gray, it’s more of a greige-taupe. This flexibility, combined with a MINIMAL undertone, means that Agreeeable Gray is THE hot color for kitchen cabinets.
WHY?
When coordinating wall colors with cabinet colors, it’s ideal if at least 20 LRV points (or more) are in between the two colors. With an LRV of 60, Agreeable Gray partners with a few off-whites, soft whites, bright whites, and colors in the softer end of the medium range (-40 LRV). But don’t get me wrong, while this versatility is good, you still have to pay close attention to depth and undertone – the world is NOT your colorful oyster.
But that’s an entire blog post unto itself…
The Pros & Cons of OFF-WHITE Painted Kitchen Cabinets
So, let’s jump in and see if Agreeable Gray is THE paint color you’ve been looking for…
AGREEABLE GRAY KITCHEN CABINETS: PALETTE #1
In this first home, you’ll see Agreeable Gray cabinets, partnered with Sherwin Williams Snowbound on the walls and Iron Ore on the island…
Why does this combo work?
Snowbound has an LRV of 83, making it a soft, warm white, and 23 points away from Agreeable Gray’s LRV of 60. But not only does the LRV difference make these two great coordinating colors, the undertones fit well together.

AGREEABLE GRAY KITCHEN CABINETS: PALETTE #2
In this next kitchen, while the backsplash is TBA (I have the photos somewhere, I need to find them!), you can see how Agreeable Gray coordinates with Sherwin Williams Pure White…

Pure White has an LRV of 84, making it one of the best shades of white with Agreeable Gray cabinets. Also, notice the EVER-lovely Urbane Bronze on the island. Being a warm greige with a green undertone, Urbane Bronze is a goooorgeous coordinating color with Agreeable Gray and the White Macaubus quartzite countertops.

AGREEABLE GRAY KITCHEN CABINETS: PALETTE #3
This next home is one of my faves, as not only is it gorgeous and homey, it was done on a BOX O’ WINE BUDGET (a girl after my own heart). As shown below, I’m sure this kitchen was designed in the early 2000s, with medium-toned wood cabinets and a beige laminate countertop (the oak floor is more mid-90s)…
My client and her hubs put blood, sweat, and beers into this kitchen, using Sherwin Williams Agreeable Gray as their cabinet color…
And I would love to tell you all about the ‘painted tile backsplash, salvaged marble countertop, and price tag of $3500’, but I’ll let this blog post tell it all.
So, what do you think? Is Agreeable Gray the cabinet color for you? Or do you need to explore MORE off-white and light-depth options?

Why don’t paint companies tell you the undertone of their paint colors? For example you mention that Urbane Bronze has a green undertone.

I have no idea – but good thing they don’t, or I’d be out of work! 🙂
Lol! Gorgeous color combo with that snowbound and agreeable gray! Wow!
This is such a timely post! We are planning to have our kitchen cabinets refaced and need a paint color that will work with our sapphire blue granite countertops (#3 in your “How to Update Your Older Granite Countertops” post) and black appliances. The room is dark with an east-facing window, so there’s not a lot of natural light (also seems dark due to the 90’s oak cabinets). Do you have suggestions on Benjamin Moore colors for the cabinets as well as the walls? I like Collingwood or Barren Plain, but my husband prefers Light Pewter (NOT Revere Pewter). The walls are currently a pinkish color and we’re OK with purple (which we have in the adjoining family room). I’m also considering Portland Gray, Elephant Gray, Nimbus, or Smoke Embers for the cabinets. Thanks!!
