Sherwin Williams Foggy Day: Paint Color Review

The Perfect Blue-Green Hue For You…

When looking for the best blue-green paint color, there’s a fine line between a blue-green that’s a stronger teal and one that’s too grayed out. And lucky for us, Foggy Day walks that fine line like it was born on it (awkward for the Mom giving birth, for sure).

So, without further ado, let’s find out if this is the blue-green hue for you…baby boo.

While not magazine-perfect, they’re packed with ideas & proven color choices to help you create a home you’ll love.

WHAT TYPE OF COLOR IS FOGGY DAY?

As you might already know, Foggy Day is a blue-green blend. The bigger question is, is it a BLUE paint color with a green undertone or a GREEN paint color with a blue undertone?

And why does it even matter?

The Best Paint Colors With Gray Flooring, Cabinets, & More

Well, the first color listed is the dominant color. So, if you want a more blue-forward color, you’ll be hoping it’s a blue-green. If you’re a fan of green, you might want a green-blue.

As for Foggy Day, it’s a BLUE-green paint color.

WHAT’S FOGGY DAY’S LRV?

Foggy Day is a very solid, medium-depth cool paiont color, which we know thanks to its LRV of 20. This LRV places it in the buxom bosom between the medium and medium-dark ranges.

Not sure what LRV is? It could save your paint-lovin’ life…and your marriage.

WHAT’S FOGGY DAY’S UNDERTONES?

Oh, you thought we were dealing with just blue and green? Hellllllls no. Foggy Day has way more up its colorful little sleeves than just blue and green. In fact, Foggy Day has a healthy dose of gray in its backdrop.

This gray takes a HUGE edge off the ‘color-forwardness’ of Foggy Day. While some people (those who don’t necessarily see undertones well) might call it a gray, it’s still a blue paint color, it just has a whackload of gray.

WHAT COLORS ARE SIMILAR TO SW FOGGY DAY?

Sampling and comparing similar shades is the best way to find the best paint color for your room. As for alternatives, there are a few…

FOGGY DAY VS. SHERWIN WILLIAMS GRAY’S HARBOR

While Foggy Day has my heart (mind you, so do Cornuts, white wine, and Boom-Chicka-Pop, so I’m easy to please), Gray’s Harbor is pretty darn gorgeous, too.

Gray’s Harbor is like a darker version of Foggy Day. So, you get the same blue-green-gray blend, but with added depth, thanks to its LRV of 12, which makes it a good dose darker. Because it’s a bit darker, Gray’s Harbor is a bit more popular for accent walls, kitchen cabinets, and front doors.

FOGGY DAY VS. CADET

If you love the look of Foggy Day, but worry that it’s a bit too dark, check out Cadet

Cadet has a similar color profile, although it often picks up a bit more blue. It also has an LRV of 31, which makes it a solid tone lighter than Foggy Day.

Being a bit lighter, Cadet is still popular for accent walls, but you’re more likely to find it in a whole room (as long as the room is reasonably well lit).

As for Benjamin Moore alternatives…

FOGGY DAY VS. BENJAMIN MOORE GRAY PINSTRIPE

These two are great comparables as they have a similar depth. While Foggy Day’s LRV is 20, Gray Pinstripe sits a bit lighter with an LRV of 22.04.

When you compare the two, you’ll also see that Gray Pinstripe leans a bit more into green and has a touch more gray, while still having a backdrop of blue for balance.
