What’s Your Color IQ? A Fun Pantone Paint Color Quiz

How Well Do You See Color?

I was browsing through Facebook the other day and came across a post about a Colour IQ Test, so of course, I had to take it. I scored 0, which, unlike the other types of IQ tests I’ve taken, bodes well for my ego.

How long does it take? Just a few minutes.

What’s the point?

You’ll discover how well you see undertones. They (whoever ‘they’ are) state that ‘1 out of 12 men have some sort of color deficiency’, and I have to agree with them. I’m amazed at the number of times I’ve been to a client’s house and said to the main man, ‘What do you think?‘ and he says, ‘Don’t bother asking me; I’m color blind. Enough said.

I only wish this test included details on what it meant if you were ‘within a certain range of numbers’. So, just so you have some guidelines on which to base your number, here’s how I classify things…

0-10          Color Genius

11-30        I may not hire you to help me pick colors, but I still like you

31-50        One of your eyes might be slightly crossed from the other (which I can make fun of as I was born this way)

51-70        Are your socks even matching?

70+           Would you like a straw and funnel with that wine bottle?

Like Tim (my hubby), this is just for eye candy…

So, all of that being said, let’s get on to the test—I’d love to hear about your results, and they better not be better than mine!

  1. Fun – Scored 6. Not bad for 72 year old eyes about to get cataract surgery. Need to plan to retake after surgery and new lenses 😊

  2. Love your website and advise. Took the color IQ test and got a score of zero. I am a quilter and I am always working with various color combinations, so I think that may have helped me to get a good score.

  3. To my surprise, I was a 2. It was so helpful when my husband was tested for color blindness and surprise! Bingo! Not completely, but enough that we no longer fight and he always defers to me <3

  4. Hi Kylie! I have referred to your blog and YouTube channel so many times to help me with color. I do architectural design (I guess that’s what you call it) for some general contractors and often I have clients also asking me to help with paint colors and finishes. That part doesn’t come easy to me, so I do a lot of research and I often do a search to see what you have to say about particular colors. You have helped me so much! And I have started noticing that the more I do, the more I can see undertones. So…. I was excited to take this test and see what I scored. Guess what?1?! I scored a zero too! 💃🏻 I am so happy to be doing what I love at this late stage in my life (I’m 56!). I have only really been doing design work (and general contracting last year) for a few years, but have always loved it. So, thank you for all your help. I feel like I’m cheating sometimes, but whatever works! 🤪

  5. I scored a 2! Guess this 71-year-old’s still got it! Seriously tho, I have always loved working with paint and color. Really enjoy your posts and have learned a lot from them.

  6. I scored zero.

If you like this and are a fellow Color Geek, you will absolutely lose your mind for the app called “I Love Hue 2” (on the Apple App store or Google Play) .

If I could get back all the hours spent on this I could write a novel or…

    You have been warned! 🫣

  7. I got a 10! Not bad! My score would have been worse without you, Kylie! I wonder what Hubby’s score will be when I ask him to take the quiz (wink).

  8. Hi Kylie,
First let me say I knew I was in deep doo doo when I scrolled right past the orange ‘Color IQ Test’ link in the article.
I scored a 2, which in the practical world, is the equivalent of saying I can name pieces of furniture but have no idea how to appropriately place them in a room. 😂
Same with colors. I may know how to place them fairly closely within a color chart but ask me how to use them in a room? LOL!!
That is why I am in awe of professionals like you. How you work your magic is a mystery to me.
Still, this was a fun activity but I’ll leave the color advice to you. You’re simply the best!
