A Modern But Homey Bathroom Remodel
When it comes to updating your home, nothing eats money like kitchens and bathrooms. However, for adding value, these two spaces are also pretty darn hard to beat, especially when they’re well done.
Now, in my work as an Online Paint Color Expert, some projects are huge challenges (insert wine here) and I have to put on my big girl panties and buckle down. But, there are times when I’m handed a gem in the making – and this bathroom remodel was one of those times.
BEFORE THE REMODEL
The interesting thing is that if you look at the BEFORE photo of my client’s bathroom, parts of it were workable…
- The flooring looked like some of today’s trendy vintage-style tiles
- The vanity was SUPER paintable
- The countertop was neutral and easy to work around and had integrated sinks
- The wallpaper was…fugly.
AFTER THE REMODEL
Regardless of the above bathroom’s more ‘budget-friendly potential’, my client wasn’t interested in a salvage project. Instead, she wanted a brand-spankin’ new bathroom and a new bathroom she GOT…and it’s friggin’ gorgeous.
The lighting is a bit subdued in the loo area, but you get the idea – she’s got some serious style…
Not every bathroom needs a bathtub. In fact, some bathrooms are more functional and spacious looking without them. As long as there’s a tub elsewhere house, shifting to a walk-in shower can be a great upgrade.
And while I love the light fixtures, with trends shifting, they could be changed to a white opaque shade without an Edison bulb…
Using the gorgeous Printmaker’s Double Washstand from Restoration Hardware (their prices are NOT for the faint of heart), gorgeous cement tile floors from The Tile Shop, and Sherwin Williams Argos, my client’s bathroom went from homely to homey.
Paint Colour Review of Sherwin Williams Argos
Argos is a light-medium depth gray with a HEAVY green-blue undertone. A color like this adds a bit of depth and interest to a bathroom without weighing it down or offering too much contrast. And look at how it complements the marble countertop and wood tones of the vanity – MAD LOVE!

What a fun project. It is beautiful! Even though I liked the old floors, these tiles are incredible! Great job.
